Paladino is finished in New York State. His blatant ploy to curry favor with the stuck-in-the-19th-century wing of the Jewish religion will lose him the vote of every moderate Republican and independent in New York.

The Cuomo campaign was quick to position Paladino as "out of the mainstream":

"Mr. Paladino’s statement displays a stunning homophobia and a glaring disregard for basic equality. These comments along with other views he has espoused make it clear that he is way out of the mainstream and is unfit to represent New York."

The only Republicans who will vote for him now are the ones who don't give a SH*T if gay kids kill themselves. Right, Roxy?

I think the Cuomo campaign realized the more Paladino exposure the better these last couple weeks which makes me a whole lot more optimistic, and I never thought Cuomo was ever a good campaigner. Paladino is vile and beyond the pale, even state Republicans are backing Cuomo.

Honestly, it's going to take every rational person actually getting out and VOTING to make sure these people don't come into any real power. It seems these elections become more and more important each year as the people running for office become more and more insane.

It AMAZES me how many people I know who don't vote and then complain. If only we had a leader we could vote FOR rather than resorting to voting AGAINST, the nutjobs wouldn't be able to run the asylum.

That's how NJ got into the mess it's in now...

I like David Foster Wallace's take on voting:

If you are bored and disgusted by politics and don't bother to vote, you are in effect voting for the entrenched Establishments of the two major parties, who please rest assured are not dumb, and who are keenly aware that it is in their interests to keep you disgusted and bored and cynical and to give you every possible psychological reason to stay at home doing one-hitters and watching MTV on primary day. By all means stay home if you want, but don't bullsh*t yourself that you're not voting. In reality, there is no such thing as not voting: you either vote by voting, or you vote by staying home and tacitly doubling the value of some Diehard's vote.

But I still prefer these people over anybody with a 'I'm Made Too, Carl!' lawn sign.

The media in this country has moved so far to the right that virtually NOTHING is extreme anymore. This year, people who couldn't get elected dog catcher will become governors, senators, and representatives. Lately, the media has been focusing on likely losers like Palladino and O'Donnell, but people who share their opinions (Brewer, Miller, Paul, etc) are propbably going to be elected the statewide offices.
