Not only did Paladino bash gays, but then said he only did so because the Jews made him do it. I don't think that strategy would get you elected mayor of Wasila, much less governor of NY.

Are there any Jews or gays in New York?

Hasidic Jews are as capable of homophobia as the next religious fanatic, but puh-lease. For the most part they have more pressing issues to worry about than Teh Gays, like being assholes to less-observant Jews, policing their neighbors, or (in Israel) rioting every time the government does something they don't like. This fixation on horrid men grinding in Speedos is much more of a Gentile phenomenon, thanks muchly.

Part of me wants to laugh as Paladino self-destructs, but his little pronouncement and the way it was delivered and worded just made me cringe He has every right to his opinion, but could he have made it any uglier and downright stupid?

It gets crazier and crazier. The Irish American Republicans--one of the Irish Republican groups that was AGAINST allowing gays to march on St. Patrick's Day--just withdrew its support for him:

There are so many Paladino moments that out-maccaca the George Allen 'maccaca' moment, but this one takes that cake. When George Allen said it, it seemed to be a stream of consciousness (albeit a racist stream of consciousness). When Paladino did this he was slowly reading it from something he wrote using a lot of pause in his cadence to almost build a bigger effect and also continue to make it seem like Andrew Cuomo, and his legendary prowess, is a pervert for marching in a Pride Parade, and won't somebody please think of his children(!) for being taken to see that Pride Parade.

Unfortunately for Palladino he chose a very sensitive time (what with all the tragic suicides related to intolerance) to let his hate flag fly.

While most are distancing themselves with Palladino over this, Ann Coulter has come to his defense. I don't have a link, but she went on O'Reilly last night and defended him.

Although, when he began talking about how "unusual" it was for SNL to skewer someone on the left, she disagreed and said they just go for funny, so I'll give her that, since I'm so tired of people acting like SNL has NEVER lampooned a democrat before.

Today's little bombshell: The Associated Press reports that state records show Paladino collected rent from two gay clubs located in buildings he owned in downtown Buffalo. One of them, called Cobalt, operated as a gay bar from 2004 to 2005 and was run by Paladino’s son, William. The other club, Buddies II, operated under the name Queen City Entertainment in another Paladino building in 2005 and 2006.

He's not going to win, but I just don't understand how anyone could be dumb enough to actually vote for this idiot. Reminds me of the Family Guy episode where Lois runs for office and the crowd jumps up and cheers every time she mentions 9/11.

No, he's not, but a lot of people who share his points of view will find themselves in the Senate, the House, and governor's mansions very soon. And once the GOP controls one or both houses of congress, they'll get to dictate the legislative agenda. And they're already threatening to shut down the government.
