G.D. Hypocrite...

"Former Alaska governor Sarah Palin, a fierce opponent of Democratic health-care reform efforts who has said America under President Obama is headed toward socialism, told a Canadian audience her family used to go to Canada to get medical care when she was growing up."

"Palin has also told an alternate version of the story that had her family traveling south by ferry to Juneau from Skagway for treatment of her brother's burned foot, rather than to Canada"

This is what gets me. Does anyone really know what this creature's reality is or has been?

Her reality is drawn from a fuzzy matrix of events and places both real and imaginary which she draws upon to make her point to further her agenda (which other then to promote herself, seems fuzzy too).

Whether Mrs. Palin went to Canada for medical care or took a ferry from Skagway to Juneau is not the point. Sarah Palin is a borderline personality who creates her own reality as it serves the moment. What she says is true to her, however this truth can change.

Having family members with the same disorder, I can see it.

Ronald Reagan used to confuse real life with movies he'd been in. He was elected president twice, by huge majorities.

Calgarians must be made of money to pay so much to see her open her mouth.

While the 1980 election was an electoral landslide, Reagan received slightly less than 51% of the popular vote.

Yes. It was not until 1946 that the first Canadian province introduced near universal health coverage. Saskatchewan had long suffered a shortage of doctors, leading to the creation of municipal doctor programs in the early twentieth century in which a town would subsidize a doctor to practice there. Soon after, groups of communities joined to open union hospitals under a similar model. There had thus been a long history of government involvement in Saskatchewan health care, and a significant section of it was already controlled and paid for by the government. In 1946, Tommy Douglas' Co-operative Commonwealth Federation government in Saskatchewan passed the Saskatchewan Hospitalization Act, which guaranteed free hospital care for much of the population. Douglas had hoped to provide universal health care, but the province did not have the money.

In 1950, Alberta created a program similar to Saskatchewan's. Alberta, however, created Medical Services (Alberta) Incorporated (MS(A)I) in 1948 to provide prepaid health services. This scheme eventually provided medical coverage to over 90% of the population.[30]

In 1957, the federal government passed the Hospital Insurance and Diagnostic Services Act to fund 50% of the cost of such programs for any provincial government that adopted them. The HIDS Act outlined five conditions: public administration, comprehensiveness, universality, portability, and accessibility. These remain the pillars of the Canada Health Act.

By 1961, all ten provinces had agreed to start HIDS Act programs. In Saskatchewan, the act meant that half of their current program would now be paid for by the federal government. Premier Woodrow Lloyd decided to use this freed money to extend the health coverage to also include physicians. Despite the sharp disagreement of the Saskatchewan College of Physicians and Surgeons, Lloyd introduced the law in 1962.

Couple of other FYI's about Canadian Medical Care History. When it was 1st implimented the Canadian Medical Assoc's boycotted it and withdrew services. Deaths actually decreased! Eventually they realized a GUARANTEED paycheck ( rather than having collection agencies beat it out of their patients) was prob the better way.

About Alberta ( Calgary included) Not quite 20 yrs a go there was a Western political party created to act as an alternative choice to what was seen as a too liberal agenda of (well) the Liberals, The Progressive Conservatives and of course the New Democratic Party.(Socialisim!) It was called the REFORM party. They tried to "merge" w the PC's but were fought off. THEN when the PC were GUTTED in an election ( 3 elected members I think) the Reform took them over and REbranded itself as the Conservative party .(HAH!) This is the present governing party in Canada @ this time. They have had to become more centerist but I personally believe it's just window dressing.( and so do others- they only have a minority government -TWICE!) BUT even still the West wants even MORE conservative policies ( ie no gay marriges, no abortion,no social assist) they have started a NEW political party called The PrairieRose.(?!) And THAT is the folks who went to see Sara Palin. Not the rest of Canada so please don't paint me with THAT brush!
