anyone else going to see this this weekend? i actually love the first one and enjoyed the second one... this third one has been getting really good reviews... it's at i think 78% on rotten tomatoes... I may check it out tomorrow morning... just in time for Halloween!

I'm going tomorrow night. Didn't like the first one, but LOVED the second one. Should be fun to watch in a crowded theatre.

God, I'm torn. I hated the first two but I'm just so drawn to anything horror I want to see this. I might go tomorrow morning when it's only $6...

I really loved both PA and PA2. I was skeptical about the third when it was first announced and even more skeptical once the storyline was revealed. But now that it's been getting great word-of-mouth and pretty great (for a horror movie of its nature) reviews, I'm really excited to see it.

I saw the last two opening night at midnight, but will unfortunately miss out this year

Nevertheless, I will be there next weekend. Really looking forward to it.

I just saw it, and I gotta say, while it was better than the third, almost none of the footage in the trailer was in the actual movie. I feel like I saw something totally different...

yeah i'm going in the morning when it's 6 bucks.. also the first movie scared me to the point it was hard for me to sleep at night because i hated walking around the house at night when everyone was asleep especially to use the bathroom from my room! haha

Really??? I mean the first one was just so BORING! and the "scares" could all be counted down - 3...2...1...SCARE!

I walked out after seeing it, strapped money to my shirt and walked around a bad neighborhood to feel scared and make up for those 90 minutes in the theater.

yeah I know not everyone is going to be scared at those types of movies... but hey... that movie played on my fear of the unknown... i hate my house at night when it's all dark.. every little sound creeps me out... kinda like Blair Witch... when that movie came out I lived in an apartment complex where the parking lot was basically a wooded area and I had to walk my complex... I would get off work at midnight then drive to it then have to walk from the lot to my apartment which was located in the back section... walking in the wooded area at night at 1am in a poorly lit area.. yeah scared the bejeezus out of me! haha

Loved the first, hated the second. I'm interested in seeing the third because it's directed by the guys who made Catfish...and I really liked that movie. I'm hoping they bring something new to the franchise and it's gotten some good reviews. Although Ebert only gave it one star.

Erik, I didn't know they directed this! I'm going to see it in a few minutes and that gives me a little more hope, although I most always agree with Roger Ebert on film reviews.

That's exactly how I felt about the first one as well. Plus there were those awful characters that acted like idiots. The second film was a lot more fun and more along the lines of what I was expecting from the first.

Exactly. While I didn't love the second one, I didn't hate it like I did the first.

And I'm in the theater now and it looks like the opening day for a new Disney movie in here. I've never seen so many parents and their kids at a horror movie. It's really kind of sick.

btw... did you guys know that Molly Ephraim aka Little Red in the Into the Woods revival was the step daughter in the second movie??? i did not know that till i was on IMDB a few weeks ago looking up info on the actors of Paranormal Activity!

I just got back from it.

While it was far from a "great" movie, it was easily the best of the 3. There were some great scare moments that while might have been a tad predictable were more than made up for with how they were done. It was clear (to me, at least) that the writers/directors etc. of this one were fans of the genre and tried to stay away from as many cliches as they could. While that isn't always possible given the limitations of the cameras used etc., I feel they did a very admirable job, especially using the fan to capture the video. It added a very nice element of suspense to PA3, even though you know by the time the camera swings back around "something" will probably be there.

***SPOILERS***

I will say that I wish the actual point of the spirits was explored more. It took a very "Last Exorcism" turn towards the end and really could have done with another 10 or so minutes added to the story to fully explain it. If I'm not mistaken, when the little girl (I forget her name) tells her imaginary friend that "Ok, I'll do it", she's talking about "marrying" him. Am I right in thinking that

And on a COMPLETELY different note - I couldn't help thinking how wonderful it would be to see Ty Burrell and Julie Bowen as Claire and Phil with the kids do one of these movies. Hell, it would be amazing to see it with any of the couples from MODERN FAMILY. Imagine Eric Stonestreet running through the house screaming like a little girl or Sofia Vergara screaming at a ghost. It just made me giggle.

I just got back from it as well... I think it's better then the 2nd but not the 1st.. and yes I agree that the whole spirits thing should be explored more.. I was hoping there was more to the movie but then it ended.. the oscillating fan thing was quite ingenious and I enjoyed it.. it did add some tension... i did enjoy it... the friend Randy was pretty funny and Dennis was really a likeable character... the scares were pretty funny too... this is a solid trilogy of movies... i wonder if they are going to make a 4th

Considering these movies cost twenty bucks and a few cases of beer for the crew to make, I'm guessing we'll see PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 16 sooner rather than later.

***MORE SPOILERS***

If I'm not mistaken, when the little girl (I forget her name) tells her imaginary friend that "Ok, I'll do it", she's talking about "marrying" him. Am I right in thinking that

According to the story, she'd be agreeing to give up her first son (which we see in the second film, but her and her husband pass a cross with the haunting onto her sister - from the first film- who ends up killing everyone and taking the baby). At the beginning of the third film, you can see the grandma pushing the mom to have a son. As she declines, she's forced to commit the girl to surrender her first boy as a sacrifice to the demon.

I actually thought this one just gives you more background on the story, but they show too much. The scariest parts in the first two were what you couldn't see. It's mildly entertaining, but I enjoyed the voyeuristic parts with no action much more than the very far and apart scares.

I assumed when the Grandmother was dressing her up to be a bride, it was for whatever ritual "marriage" was going to take place.

Also, why the hell did the Grandmother have all of those videos in the first place?

Yes, you're right about the "marriage". That's where we assume she's taking it at the end of the movie. What puzzles me is why neither of them seem to remember much about it once they grow up. The main thing the demon wants, we can assume, is a young male to sacrifice (what we see at the end of the second film).

The camera set up at the grandma's house was really pushing it for me, why would a leader of old evil witches allow these video cameras to be set up at her house?

Maybe because she knew they'd all be dead and it wouldn't matter. What strikes me as MORE odd is why she KEPT them.

But the tapes also get stolen at the beginning of the second one. We know they came from the grandma's house after she died, but we don't know who steals them.

I wonder if these are all plot holes, or they are keeping these details in order to have as many sequels as they can. We still don't know what happened to baby Hunter, who stole the VHS tapes (maybe the witches?) from the basement, which house burns down, what happened to their mom, their real dad, etc.
