I seem to be in the minority in thinking that this is just really gross. Just plug your headphones in, and zone out.

You're not alone, if the comments in the article you linked to are to be believed.
I am not even sure this really happened. It's worth mentioning that Elan is a producer for several reality tv series. It's hard to believe that the flight attendant would deliver the wine with Elan's note, but later refuse to deliver the vodka bottles, allowing Elan to do it. I also find it unlikely the flight attendant would ferry notes back and forth or allow one passenger to harass another this way.
True or not, I don't find this gross, but I don't find it particularly funny, either.

Posted: 11/29/13 at 8:09pmWhat a moron. He acted like a child. It wasn't remotely amusing or warranted. My guess is he made it all up for attention. If you notice the pics of HIS notes all seem to be taken at an angle on his tray table with stuff in the background. All the pics of HER notes are closeup, head-on pics with no background showing. It's just off and too stupid to be true.

I don't think it's a hoax. The guy is a semi-known figure on the Internet. I feel like it would have been discredited by now if it was made up.
The lady sounds like a pill, but this guy totally lowered himself to her level--actually he went even lower.

The only entity I can think that would discredit it is US Airways. At this point, they probably should make a statement one way or the other. I'm sure they don't want people thinking that a flight attendant aided one passenger in harassing another in the air, and hard to believe that given airport security these days, "Diane" wouldn't have faced repercussions after assaulting Elan on the premises regardless of whether he wanted to press charges or not.
Also, it isn't like he hasn't tweeted something obnoxious like this before. I likewise doubt this tawdry tale:
Elan live-tweets a date

Posted: 11/30/13 at 12:06amI can't believe she actually mentioned the "special stuffing". It will be to soon if never attend another Thanksgiving dinner where the host or hostess brings out a ceramic bowl filled with stuffing and exclaims "This is my Mom's stuffing recipe. It is the best stuffing you will ever taste!" Really? Gag a maggot!

The "special stuffing" bit is where I stopped buying it, too. Regardless--yes, flying during holidays is awful, and people over-react. But she wasn't doing anything that was getting in his own way, and if it was seen as inappropriate, I would hope authorities would deal with it.
I can't believe a flight attendant would pass notes--with or without drinks. And there's no mention of anyone else reacting or even caring? By the end of the tweet-a-thon I felt he deserved any smack, fake or not, he got.

I read about this earlier. I believed it at first, but by the end of it, I thought it was satire and laughed my A** off. I deal with entitled guests all the time and I wish I could do what he did. If he did it at all. We all know this woman. We all would love to say this stuff to her. I find it brilliant and hilarious. I don't believe that what he says transpired actually transpired.
I know many "Dianes" and I would LOVE to tell them off. Maybe on my last day at my job.
"It's not all about you! You want an early check in? Nothings clean. Want a late check out? Pay for an extra night!"
I did that yesterday, actually. A guest wanted a 4PM check out. After telling him twice that the maids go home at 3, he said it was no bother for them to stay until four. I told him that he would have to pay for a second night. Since his business was picking up the tab, he said okay.

And while I think being vulgar to make your point sometimes has its place, why argue this when you are trapped on a plane ride (which must have been under 6 hours) with someone else. It's a child wanting attention, if it even happened. Enjoy your two little vodkas, watch whatever crap is on TV and don't worry about the woman who by apparently seems to be fine now that she's in her plane seat and get over yourself.

At the point where he said she should look him up on the Internet was when I thought, 'oh, so you are a nobody with a blahg.'
Why is he proud, and what makes him 'famous'?
I've never heard of him before this.

Guys, it's a hoax. I'm on a private forum right now where the real story is coming out and it's a doozy. The producer of The Bachelor watched a woman walk up to a flight attendant and ask why there hadn't been updates in 30 minutes. She returned to her seat in row 12. Row 7, specifically 7A, was a mother, sitting next to her young daughter, who was sitting next the husband. Someone who didn't book the flight early enough kept trying to send unfinished wine and food to a woman behind the Bachelor producer and the flight attendant made him get up and carry it himself. The Bachelor producer sat there, watched the whole thing, then started tweeting up his story. At no point did anyone threaten anyone else over Thanksgiving or abused a flight attendant.
Someone working for the producer of The Bachelor keeps erasing anyone's comments contradicting his story. The witness I know is trying to figure out who to go to with the thrilling story of how the producer of The Bachelor sat there the entire flight with his headphones on alternately watching a movie and playing with his phone.

Posted: 11/30/13 at 12:51pmMy opinion is this: there are people like Diane everywhere you go. Most people ignore them, but if you feel you have to be the one to put her in her place, don't be an asshole. The guy's an asshole.
#18Passive Aggressive Airplane fight
Posted: 11/30/13 at 2:07pmAnd now the producer of The Bachelor has deleted a lot of the story from his Twitter account. Like anything that would be actionable against him in a harassment and/or defamation case. No more eating anything in the story, no more photo of the alleged passenger, etc.

I just read that it IS true and the reason why he is deleting his tweets is because the woman was recently diagnosed with stage IV of a type of cancer and has less than a year to live. She was doing one "last" Thanksgiving with her extended family.
Even that sounds far-fetched. Who knows what's true anymore.
It's so sad that our society is so anxious for "drama" that we'll make anything up and put it up online. Knowing these are the times we live in, we have to question everything. IE, after the sudden death of a celebrity, there are always two reactions: 1) RIP, they will be missed, or 2) It's a HOAX!!

So far, the cancer story is only supported by the fact that, by Elan's own admission, "Diane" was wearing a surgical mask, and he could hear her breathing from several rows away. In the comments in one of the myriad articles about this, someone claiming to be "Diane's" cousin said that she was terminally ill.
I believe trentsketch's info is probably correct. Elan was bored and spun a tale to amuse himself and get attention. One thing, though. His own twitter remains intact. He hasn't deleted anything as far as I can tell.
My opinion on this thing hasn't changed. I don't think it's true, and if it is, it's really sad that people cheered Elan's actions, especially on Thanksgiving. He's also a massive hypocrite, posting in his blog that his actions were all about teaching kindness.

Yes, because telling someone to eat your d!ck is the way you treat kindness.
I find this about as humorous as the guy who was live tweeting someone's break up that he overheard.
People are disgusting.

Well, color me surprised. I only wonder that it took him so long to come clean about it. It spun out of his control when the pendulum began to swing the other way. When the lovefest for the "hero" ended and he started taking heat for his "actions". He started backing away from it, trying to change the subject.
Then he started playing the victim because of the backlash and negative press. He knew he was going to be found out eventually, so he finally gave it up. His most recent tweet, from Diva's link reads: "I conclude by saying hopefully a few people got a few laughs over a slow Thanksgiving weekend"
Yeah - 'cause creepy men stalking agitated middle-aged women on long plane flights is HI-larious, and the best way to teach kindness is to harass the hell out of miscreants, menacing them and repeatedly suggesting that they take something, preferably your genitals into their mouth to shut them up.
What a monumentally creepy and disgusting jerk.
