I saw this movie at midnight, and was rather impressed by it. And, I did not like the second one AT ALL. That probably had something to do with being grossed out by Davy Jone's crew, but this time around I was used to it. Give it a chance, and you might actually enjoy it.
And I'd like to be on a boat with 100 or so Jack Sparrows, that would be amazing.

Posted: 5/25/07 at 4:49pmMuch, much better than the second movie. I was hooked from the beginning, which also served to really creep me out. Keith Richards was fun, and you KNOW that was him playing the electric guitar we heard in the next scene. I also really enjoyed the Singapore angle...I thought it was fascinating. Chow Yun-Fat is the man.

"Well slap me thrice and hand me to me mother"...Rush...steals the show! I'm glad it was not "all" about Depp. The other supporting characters were so well developed, they deserved their chance to shine. ...and didn't you just guess that scoundrel was Jack Sparrow's dad the moment he reared his pock marked rudy face!
3 hours...well spent..though I could have gone straight from the theater to work by the time got home.

I'm really looking forward to seeing this. I was disappointed with POTC 2 at first, but when I saw it again recently, I liked it more--I enjoyed the Elizabeth/Jack dynamic.
The Empire Strikes Back is an incredible film--the best and most character driven of both SW trilogies, IMO. I also loved LOTR: the Two Towers. Return of the King was the movie I had slight problems with, although

There are two ways to state your disinterest in seeing a movie:
1) "I don't like this trilogy. It does nothing for me and I will not be spending my money on it." - Does not require professional help.
2) "This film is an ungodly hound released from the pits of hell to destroy me." - Requires professional help.

"...an ungodly hound released from the pits of hell to destroy me."
...if I had a nickel for every time I thought that about someone here...

Posted: 5/25/07 at 9:02pmIt's a Disney movie. Not so many Pirates raping and killing in it. You should at least know that, Cruel.

I liked it. Lots of showy acting in it. You can tell the actors are having fun. Bill Nighy chews some serious scenery. Keira is ridiculously talented -- even with a mediocre script.
It's a lot of fun, and of course very little substance. But, it doesnt promise to be.
Be sure to stay after the credits.

Posted: 5/25/07 at 10:38pmActually Shiksa, it was surprisingly graphic. I enjoyed it, better than the second one, that is for sure. I felt like the second movie was just 3 hours of the movie makers saying "LOOK AT WHAT WE CAN DO!" While this one saved it for the end.

Three hours of my life I wish I could relive before I see it again Sunday night. And perhaps again on Monday. All I can recall is last summer with Pirates 2.... I think I got up to 8 showings. I was shooting for twelve, but I can just redeem myself this summer.
I'm a bit obsessed. I guess that makes me biased the second I enter the theater, but hey. At least I'm having fun with it.

"pirates are evil, filthy, rapists. i hate the idolatry of them."
Yes, they are - and don't forget murderers and thieves, as well.
And they've been a part of mythologized culture for centuries.
I'm not surprised at all that a society that has embraced and glorified gang and mafia subculture has decided to give the original a revisit.
They'll make millions - actually, billions.

I saw this movie tonight as was very disappointed. I was a little disappointed with the second one. I felt both dragged quite a bit. This movie has the best action sequences and special effects I've ever seen. Parts of it were hard to follow at some points. The outcome of Elizabeth and Will was unsatisfying. The movie made certain people appear and reappear in odd ways. Some story lines weren't explained very well or were confusing. For example, some of the Davy Jones and his heart thing kind of confused me and other people I saw it with.

I thought you said you saw the second one. Davy Jones and his heart "thing" was explained for the full two and a half hours.
I loved it. I love it even more knowing Cruel hates it.

"Am I the only one who doesn't understand the end? The Will/Elizabeth part, anyway?"
Your not the only one. I had to take a few minutes to think about that storyline after the movie to figure it out. Skittles, I mean parts of that storyline in the third movie were confusing.

Posted: 5/26/07 at 6:58pmI LOVED this one, after I had been quite disappointed in the 2nd one. I actually liked the ending(although really, who would wait 10 years on an island for some guy?) and I thought the Keith Richards cameo was hilarious.
