Exactly right, Weez.
Of course, Etoile is right about priorities, but I think once it's been determined that there is no loss of life, thoughts naturally turn to loss of property. There's no way of knowing what valuables, keepsakes, work, etc., may have been lost.

Canada Geese are not from Canada. They only pretend to be Canadian.
And the Canadians are none too happy about it. Nor are good ol' American Cackling Geese.

I thought Canadian Geese were American Geese that were avoiding the draft.

I'm flying into LaGuardia (the airport, not the Mayor) next Tuesday. If the heightened Inauguration Day security doesn't freak me out, the Hudson River will! Everybody pray. I've got to see me some "Billy Elliot," "Pal Joey," "Altar Boyz" and "Shrek!" And escape the 10 below weather in Chicago we have today.
Oh, wait, the weather will travel eastward with me. Darn it! lol
And I hope there weren't any puppies in the luggage hold. How awful to think about........

Why do I feel like I said "Beetlejuice" one to many times in this thread?

Sommsy, we have to capture and imprison those geese before we can force-feed them. Better hurry...everything's going to change come next Tuesday.

The plane is now tied to a pier in Battery Park and they will pull it from the water.

msnbc online reports that the plane eventually sank. Is that true?

There appears to be a live feed on MSN that shows the plane at a pier.

How they were able to tow it with part of the plane being submerged is beyond me though.

I saw an interview with one of the passengers as he was getting off one of the ferries. He was immediately surrounded by reporters who started hounding him with questions. He was calm and answered questions, but he was standing there freezing--his pants were soaked from the river water and he was wearing only a t-shirt. Someone finally gave him a coat! As the passenger was led away and the live feed faded, you could hear someone ask him if he was interested in appearing on the Rachel Maddow show. I give the guy props for dealing with all of this so well.

I just saw Robin Roberts of GMA on the news. Apparently her apt. overlooks the Hudson, and she saw the whole thing happen.
She gave quite an account of watching it as it took place. She said it looked as though the plane floated gently onto the water -- though her first fear, naturally enough, was that it might be some sort of attack.

Reg, I'm sure that exact thought went through everyone's mind--if even just for a split-second.

We Geese are peaceful sorts- until we are provoked. Then, as your PalJoey has said, we can and will attack relentlessly and kill if need be. Sort of like how PalJoey reacts if someone dares to criticize Patti LuPone.
But I'm not doing that. When she hits that E in "Every Thing's Coming Up Roses" it sounds just like my dear Gwendolyn at her moment of ecstasy.

"How they were able to tow it with part of the plane being submerged is beyond me though"
It was just partially swamped, like a canoe swamps. It just had to be moved gently enough that it didn't break up. The big FDNY boat next to it had a cable on it and, along with a smaller boat on the other side, they nudged it in to shore.

The stories which have been emerging are unbelievable.
That pilot is a true hero. He reportedly walked up and down the aisle to make sure everyone was off.
Thank goodness everyone is alive and safe. It must have been terrifying... It's hard to even imagine.
Who cares about laptops and ipods. Everyone is alive, against so many odds. A truly incredible story.
