Damn, that wasn't just a plane, that was a US Air jet! I can't yet get much info in it.
They said that it just left from NYC heading to Charlotte, North Carolina.

How horrible! I hope they can get all those people out of there.
Jesus, they said it was a bird strike. Unbelievable.

A flock of geese hit the plane. I think they are exacting revenge for their friends the deer that were killed by the snowmobilers.

CNN reports that the landing was "controlled" landing.
Wow! scary! not at this frigid water! I hope everyone was safe. they can die of hypothermia within 20 mins on the water.

It doesn't sound like anyone's in the water. They said the plane is intact and people are being evacuated.
But you're right, Jaystarr; it's not a day you want to be standing on the wing of a plane in the middle of the Hudson (not that you ever would . . . )
I do hope they get them all to safety quickly.

Reg - I don't know if anyone has or has not hit the water - but there are lifejackets in the water.. so they are prepared and are saying that with the windchill factor - it's minutes to hypothermia if they hit the water/air afterwards
I'm certainly not minimizing the danger; just hoping for the best.
Yeah~its 15 degrees right now in New York City. I am sure its colder ~just there in the open water with wind shields and all.. At least! hopefully NO ONE is in the water..or just standing in the plane must be terribly freakin' cold! ouch!
It's reported that the amazing pilot brought the plane purposely down onto the water, as if he knew he had to use it as a runway.

Really? Is that safer than landing on the ground?
I hope everyone's okay, it's freezing out...
