Warner Bros’ upcoming summer blockbuster Poseidon is currently in production. Wolfgang Petersen, best known for Troy, The Perfect Storm, Air Force One, and Das Boot, directs an ensemble cast including Richard Dreyfuss, Kurt Russell, Emmy Rossum, Mike Vogel, Josh Lucas, Mia Maestro, Freddy Rodriguez, Kevin Dillon, Jacinda Barrett, Jimmy Bennett, and Andre Braugher. Websites will have the opportunity to visit the set and get a behind-the scenes look at the making of the film. They will take part in an online journal documenting the making of the film in a way that has never been done before. One site a week will visit the set for part of a day. While there they will interview one or two cast and/or crew members. Each site will have exclusive content and coverage that is unique to them. Shortly thereafter they will post their set visit report on their site. Their report will also include links to the previous and next week’s journal entries, so readers will be able to follow a sort of chain of entries across the internet. All of the reports will eventually be aggregated and archived on the official Poseidon website

Every time I see the original film I bust out laughing when Red Buttons goes over to Carol Lynley and bluntly says, "Your brother is dead, Nonnie".
It's just how he says it.

Posted: 8/31/05 at 12:42amAdmittedly somewhat off-topic, but mentioning that song makes me think of the South Park episode where the evil succubus-woman wants to marry Chef, and keeps singing it. Then the boys have to sing the song backwards to banish her. Anyone else know what I'm referring to?

Posted: 8/31/05 at 12:19pmWhy would you want to remake The Poseidon Adventure?!? The original is so great and I really don't think it can be improved upon. Besides, what would the movie be without Gene Hackman, Roddy McDowell, and Shelley Winters? There is no point in this little capitalist venture.

And am I the only one who hopes they don't remake "Morning After"? That song was the WORST and the horrible, wan, vanilla rendition of it from the movie made me want to slash some throats.

Awwwww....I like that song. Rath is gonna hunt you own now...
My favorite rendition of that song was in Poseidon: The Upside-Down Musical in Chicago. I brilliant moment in a mess of a show.

Posted: 8/31/05 at 4:49pmYes, but will Emmy Rossum and Josh Lucas have a whimsical "spitting contest" over the railing?

Posted: 8/31/05 at 4:52pmOh! And did you hear they are going to remake THE WICKER MAN with--God help us--Nicolas Cage in the Edward Woodward part. I would have to nominate Cage as the-actor-least-likely-to-be-believable-as-a-prim-virgin-freaked-out-by-a-pagan-community.

Posted: 8/31/05 at 5:32pmSorryGrateful - Yes, the musical was a spoof of the film using a group of fans of the film to provide narrative framework and interjecting personal anectdotes (I remember something about a woman who described performing oral sex on Red Buttons) to fill in gaps in the action which were unstageable. There was gender-bending casting and some clever staging, but the songs were flimsy and repetitive and the use of the film fans was intrusive and superfluous making for a rather frustrating evening. It was initially a good idea that was poorly executed. Many of the actors simply could not capture the essence of their characters, so the constant comparisons to the film during the show were a real let-down to those really familiar to the film.
