The vote probably wouldn't pass, but it depends on what he would be impeached for. Approval rating is vital for the Republicans [as it would have been for the Democrats].

I think he's worse in a lot of ways, and particularly in terms of his actual commitment to social conservatism. He'd be disastrous for reproductive and LGBT rights - things I suspect Trump really isn't going to do much about.

That being said, I would trust the zombie-like Pence over short-fused and thin-skinned Trump with control over the military, relationships with antagonistic foreign leaders, and especially the nuclear arsenal. And those are all important things.

Many Democrats - including, I think, Obama and Clinton - said that Trump was abnormal and dangerous in a very particular way, beyond normal policy disagreements, and I think they're right. So I'd cautiously welcome impeachment (however unlikely that is).

The trial is supposed to start on November 28, but I believe his lawyers filed a motion yesterday asking the judge to postpone the trial until after the inauguration. Their reasoning being, that he's too busy with the transition, and it's too important to the country, for him to be distracted with a trial at this time. What? He's not going to be busy after the inauguration? Ha!
