well, that is possibly true. But "homophobia" is often used to imply anti-gay. I try to make the distinction as there is indeed a difference.

I'm an American. I deliberatly live here because I want to be as equal to the next straight guy. With a president like Bush, how can I be? I won't be. I atleast should be in his eyes, if not in the entire country's.
I honestly beleive that if the amendment is passed, one bathroom door will say "GAY MEN" and the other will say "STRAIGHT MEN" in the next...oh, fifty years. or maybe five. Which-ever one, it shouldn't happen.
Come on people. You can agree with Bush, that's fine. But on an issue like our own equality to the next heterosexual, we have to agree. I don't agree with Bush on his "traditional family" view. Sure it's traditional, but some people aren't. We should be able to live the way we feel. That's what America is about.
F*CK you all. I'm voting for Kerry. Atleast he says he'll let us be equal.

I'm still waiting for Lady G. to give me one reason to vote for Bush that would override his and the republicans stance on Gay and Lesbian unions.

Marc-
-I agreed with his decision to go to war. Was everything perfect, was the information right? No, not everything was perfect, and the information that was given to Bush from three different intelligence organizations, apparently wrong- but I backed him from the beginning of this, and I hope to see peace in the Middle East, eventually. What was your proposal for Iraq, did you mean to leave Sadaam there in power any longer? Although I felt that Bush should also be paying more attention to the Israel/Palestine and Afghanistan areas, I hope that the situation in Iraq will calm down enough for us to focus on the Middle East, as a whole.
-Besides the gay issue, I will admit it, I am a pretty conservative gal. I don't approve of abortions (although I understand why they cannot be completely banned right now).
-I don't understand political correctness when it comes to race, as the Democratic party seems to thrive on. Affirmative action is something I am very against- people of other races don't need 'help' to get into school or get into a job. A black person has the exact capability to do anything as I do. So does a Hispanic person. So does a white person. Racial lines may exist forever, but I feel that the Democrats are raising the fence- making sure that we don't offend other people by saying 'African American.'
-While making a decision purely based on a religion is very extreme, I don't approve of abolishing it completely in the government. There is no balance. You can't have a government that doesn't believe in religion at all, it's almost impossible. While religion shouldn't play a big part in anything for the government, I want religious freedom. To be able to say that you are religious and not be persecuted about it- especially in politics today.
My hands are tired. ...Really tired. There is really so much more. The economy, believe me, I'll just tape record myself and send a recording.
And while Bush isn't perfect, to me, he is the lesser of the two evils.

I guess she doesn't have one...
But my last post made me a bit angry. He can have great views on ice-cream and i dunno...ballerinas, but something that will affect my future like this plan to amend the constitution is something i feel strongly against.
It's our future. Our happiness. I don't see me being happy just "living with" another man. Some day I might find Mr. Right adn want to marry him...I just want to have that choice, and right now Bush isn't going to let us.

Alright honey, y'all try typing that in one minute.

Exactly, Captain_Obvious. I haven't really assigned myself a sexuality yet, but if my "Mr. Right" is a woman, I'd like to be able to marry her.

WHOOOOOOOAAAAA LG....I think that it's ok for a politician to be religious in their personal life but they CANNOT let it affect the government. I'm HUGE on separation of church and state and I genuinely believe that republicans want religion in government and I think that's ludicrous. That's one thing I cannot budge on. Because if we let religion into government, we just completely abolished the original reason for the formation of this nation.

It's depending on what you mean by 'affecting the government'. I draw my lines there too. That's what I mean by extreme.
But sometimes people absolutely RIP into a politician when he's public about his religion.

Religion is essential to our daily lives. But to have so much as a president that would say it was illegal not to go to church on sundays, then that is wrong. Religious freedom is great, but we don't all have to follow the government's religion.
I'd rather have someone with morals and values, instead of sadistic creep.

I don't care if the Pope runs for Prez, as long as it doesn't affect the government. I think that there should be absolutely ZERO religion in government. This is not a statement I'm making up, this is one of the main concepts that our nation is based on.
It's ok for a politician to be religious--but when they base decisions on religious platforms...

Captain_Obvious- this government doesn't have a religion...well, not now, anyway. I don't mean it to be like that.
But if you ask a politician why he...doesn't approve of abortion, and he says ONLY "Because God meant for that child to be alive" or whatever, I don't buy that. You need more of a reason.
But follow a religion devoutly, and to be faithful to it, that doesn't warrant extreme criticism.
EDIT: And I admire Bush on being so open about his religion...but not when it comes to the extremities, such as only using it for the basis of a law.

Ok....I'm cool with that. But I don't think that can even be ONE of the reasons if you're asking why the politician doesn't approve of it on a government level. If it's on a personal level I say go for it, the sky's the limit.

Oohp. So, if the politician gave a religious reason, and a scientific/practical reason that made sense, you still wouldn't buy it?
That, I would approve.
P.S. I'm still waiting for Marc to order a mass murderer of "LadyGuen". Either that or at my front doorstep with John Kerry.

He could give both reasons just for sh*ts and giggles but only the scientific one is relevant to the government.

I believe that a woman should have the right to either keep her child, or kill it. Even though it's not really a child until it's born, either naturally or induced or whatever.
Now i'm not saying a woman should kill her five year old baby. No...but as long as that baby is in her body, i think she should be able to do whatever she wants to do with it.
Like my mother used to say "I brought you into this world, and I can take you out of it." Nuff said.
" And Lady G - enjoy being a member of a political party that is totally homophobic."
::bangs head against wall::
Lady G, thanks for holding down the fort while I was away and unable to help.
I have trouble even formulating a response here b/c it is so incredibly amusing/sad how people refuse to view people as individuals and group them all together.
Do I agree with the President on an amendment?-no, but that is not at the top of my priorities list at the moment because I dont really seeing it happen. There is A LOT more going on in the country so its not a deciding factor. (PM me if you want my huge, detailed theory about the amendment)
I wont say more b/c LG did a good job explaining. I think that if everyone took the time to seriously try to understand the other side or at least the thought process involved, things would be changed, life would be better, and society wouldnt be so divided.
Even if you dont believe that there are a lot of Republicans out there like LG and me (willing to talk, understand, compromise.... listen open-mindedly) then just be happy that there are SOME of us out there and let that be a hope to you. If you treat people with respect maybe you can open more minds.

But high numbers of 15 year old girls just going into the clinic? (Man, I wish I had the stats here...)
Adult women, I understand more of. But young teenagers? Nope. And if we get more sex education in the schools, it can be pronounced almost inexcusable. But that hasn't happened yet. A friend of mine goes to a school where they SAY that they have health and sex ed classes, and really don't. That's ridiculous.
Marc- About the abortions, I DO wish that gays would adopt. And I have a theory about this which I would like to post, but will probably be crucified for since it's very outrageous.
And the economy, as I said, give me your address and I'll send you 3 recorded casette tapes of me talking about it. I don't believe that the economy is in any extreme danger (in most cases).
And millie, thanks for coming.
