I respect LG. She knows what she's talking about. She's not just saying "I hate you" without saying why.
What am I trying to say? It's late...I'm tired....I guess it's just "i know why i hate it, not just becuase I want to." Maybe? If not, sorry.

Yes, Captain. And I am thankful for it.
I am tired and need sleep. But maybe it just means that we can agree to disagree on the issues but still get along!
However, none of this explains how that bumbling idiot ever became President or Governor in the first place. You can at least respect the figurehead of a Reagan or a Bush, Sr. We don't currently have a figurehead--we have a bobblehead.

why is it we always hear about the "religious right"- and never the religious middle or left? i feel like people like to diss Christians, but it's not PC to do it to other religions. the middle and left are almost never represented in the media, and thus an image is formed of Christians being... intolerant, ignorent, etc. so i'm here to represent. i'm from texas. i'm a Christian. and i'm not a republican. actually, i don't know what i am- independent? i'm frustriated with the democratic party, because the man we've chosen to run for president won't take a stand on something that's really important to me. he says "i support civil unions." do you support gay marriage, sir? "i um...um..." (runs and hides). i want to know what he thinks, and how he's different than mr. bush. other problems i have with the democratic party? the whole abortion thing. i used not really care until i took a health class and saw a picture of what a baby looks like at six weeks- it has freaking fingernails! i don't really want people killing that. then again, i guess it's the persons choice and not mine. affirmitive action? like LG said, i don't think people need any "help" getting into school. you black? you white? hispanic? it shouldn't matter. affirmitive action is reverse racisim. however, the republican party has me pissed to! i'm not going to blaim bush for the economy too much because it actually has nothing to do with the current president but is determined like, decades before. and the economy is a cycle. he has had rather, how do you say... extreme spending habits however. so why am i mad at the republican party? they won't let me get married, i don't like war (let's face it, i'm a hippie), they don't like the enviroment (drilling in alaska is NOT COOL), and i don't think mr. bush is a very good representitive of our nation. he's a hate magnet. so while i don't want mr. bush in office, the big question is, what is mr. kerry going to do for ME?
- just the rambling thoughts of a ambisextrious texas christian

haha I just had a query whether anyone would be there tomorrow and I sparked a whole debate!
But that's okay, it's healthy, I just need my sleep for a lot of walking and chanting tomorrow.
G'night!

Good luck, SammyGal, stand up for what you believe, but stay safe. No matter how peaceful the group intends to be, I believe there will be planted instigators, and things might get out of hand, as these things do. But I will praying (in my non-religious-right way) for you and all the others.
I wish I could see this one:

"Damn. Did you all hear the screeching hault?"
Damn straight. I would have never gotten to sleep if I never got off.
And Marc, what isn't worth it?

I have to say, as a gay woman who is going to vote for Kerry, that LG seems to be, at least on this thread, the MOST educated of anyone here on the issues and sides.
First of all, the Democratic platform does NOT support gay marriage, but "civil unions." Which is not making us "equal" either.
The fact that the anti-Republicanites are so rabid really bothers me. The fact that you can say someone with different beliefs is "pathetic" and you "feel sorry for" them is frightening to me. Why is it that only non-Republicans are allowed to have opinions and views?
Rath--you can't just oversimplify the things that have been said here like that. I can't speak for anyone else, but I asked how a gay person can support a politician who not only doesn't support them, but takes action against them. It doesn't matter if they are Republican or not.
I do find it odd that anyone could actually think that George W. Bush is a worthy candidate. Had this President been a McCain or a Giuliani, I don't think the President would have had so much opposition.
These are fair debates. And Lady jumped into the line of fire when she came into this thread--a thread that clearly isn't about loving the RNC. That's fine. That's debate. It's why we are here.
I'm getting tired of people criticizing that debates shouldn't be taking place on a message board--that is one of the major things a message board is for. And, we don't have to like anyone's opinion--we have the right to argue against their opinion.

I don't think that she criticized the debates, but some of the really harsh statements.
I'm used to it now, but when I started out debating, I almost wanted to just freak out when people called me pathetic, a rich bitch, God obsessed, stupid, and all of those insults.
And yes, I read some very CLEAR insults on this thread, and others. I have never insulted anyone's political beliefs, but if people want to be that low, they can go ahead. But that's just for me.
Go ahead, call me pathetic, feel sorry for me, but I know that there are other Republicans (maybe on this board) who aren't as strong to just brush off the insults, and I think that it's horrible if they read some of this stuff that happens to be directed to an entire group of people.
I only feel sorry for gay Republicans right now. What a conundrum they are in.
spider, yes this has been discussed to death. Do a search on the RNC and shows closing and you'll find plenty of discussion on it and links to articles with discussions by producers, etc.
The RNC is ONLY going to really 'safe' shows...nothing controversial and the rest of the shows will be quiet and/or closing because NO ONE IS COMING INTO THE CITY.
jrb, I wasn't oversimplifying, but in fact speaking out against the oversimplification that is a constant on this issue on these boards.
To put it bluntly, as someone who attended church for most of his life, religion is not just a factor but a CAUSE of a lot of the problems in this country. Do you think people who hate homosexuals would have such a strong case if the stupid Bible didn't back them up on it? Not to mention the fact that the Bible has been translated SOOOOO many times, and edited to death by people with political motivations (the King James version... anyone?) to the point where to any smart, reasonable intelligent historian, it SHOULD be almost completely useless. BUT the majority of this country still chose to act like the sheep that the Bible refers to them as, and be hearded around and abused and manipulated by people like Bush who really only use religion for their bigoted purposes. Religion has NO busineess WHATSOEVER in government, and considering the impression Bush has given me during his four years of office, I am offended whenever he so much as brings God up in one of his speeches- not because I am Christian- but because of how hypocritical it is of him, and because I can't stand anyone who uses the fact that this country is so easily swayed when religion is a factor, to get what they want. It is sick.

So really, what is the trouble?
Christianity or religion?
however, none of this explains how that bumbling idiot ever became president or governor in the first place.
this is an interesting perspective which is addressed by no small authority on campaigns and politics, donna brazile. now i would not think that anyone could label donna dear as anything but a high partisan democrat. her piece today in newsweek which starts like this:
"it’s hard to travel across the country these days without seeing an old familiar bumper sticker: 'somewhere in texas, a village is missing its idiot.' perhaps the slogan rang true for many progressive voters in this highly partisan, highly charged and highly polarized electorate. but, if the bumper-sticker crowd believes it refers to george w. bush, they are sorely mistaken.
sen. john kerry can win this election by understanding that he is running against a shrewd, clever and an extremely intelligent opponent who was trained in political combat by the late gop strategist lee atwater."
the whole piece is here and is remarkably candid in admitting the failures they made in 2000 as well as pointing out how to win this time around.

but the more people convince themselves that they are running against a buffoon, the lower the expectations are and the easier it will be for gw to wow the public, so please keep harping on it, jrb.
Religion, Lady, is the problem. Christianity is America's religion, by and large. See the connection?
public speaking is only part of the presidency, jrb. hey, more power to ya. i hope that everyone on the left keeps screaming that he's an idiot until they are blue in the face. more specifically i hope john kerry believes that going into the debates. the more shrill the scream the less it resonates with independents. so don't ratchet anything down on my account.
