Queer Misogyny

Posted: 5/12/06 at 12:25pmHow did I know that a discussion of the C word and misogyny would lead to a plug for some faggot's cabaret show?

Posted: 5/12/06 at 12:29pmAnd, nom, I have already stated twice my feelings on the matter, which is the same thing bway has stated multiple times already just in reverse. I don't think those boys were trying to hurt Jane's feelings, but their absolute insecurity and immaturity did.

Jane herself said it was immature and it hurt her. I do believe there are things that might just be absolutely wrong, but sometimes we hurt others unintentionally, or else our actions adn attitudes have secondary or even tertiary effects besides the intended ones.
As for people with Graces, lucky for you if you never had any problems with yours.

Posted: 5/12/06 at 12:43pmWell, I never meant to imply that I haven't had ANY problems with my grace--it's a friendship like most friendships. We just have never had problems that are like robbie described. I'm trying to think if I ever was guilty of what robbie described before I met D, but I want to think I didn't. I just don't see things on a gender level. People are unique.

It's interesting,
I'm reading this, and though it makes sense, i've never experienced it amongst my gay friends. Maybe i'm lucky. If anything, i find that I've lost out on dating some GREAT guys because they are SO close with their female friends and don't seem to be available to date men.

Well, I think it's been pointed out on this thread already, Princeton, the incredibly tight symbiotic relationship many gay men have with straight women. In MANY cases, the "Will and Grace" syndrome really substitutes for any kind of "romantic" relationship, as you'll often that both partners of W&G go through boyfriends and series of dates but never find someone to compare to their gay boyfriend/straight girlfriend.

Posted: 5/12/06 at 12:57pmSame here Princeton and I'm OLD! The article just didn't read true for me or my experience. I have always had more female friends than male and other than my best friend who said he was "scared" as a topless woman walked by in Rio, I've never had the experience.

Posted: 5/12/06 at 12:59pmI can see the truth in all that--but my Grace has had a bf for over 9 months now. And, I'm single by choice. But, I have seen Will & Graces who are happy with each other as their emotional core--and as long as they are happy, groovy. It's the 21st century and relationships and families of all kinds are evolving.

Posted: 5/12/06 at 1:02pmMy Grace has had a boyfriend for almost 2 years and is about to become engaged (let's hope). She and I have a beautiful relationship. I'm saying that i've dated guys who aren't in the lucky situation with their Grace that i'm in.

Quick tangent just to add: isn't it great that a pop culture moment like Will and Grace finally gave rise to a better term than fag hag? There's a little of that weird, byproduct misogyny existing in the homosexual world right there for you in that term of endearment.

I HATE the term fag-hag.
My female best friend is STUNNINGLY BEAUTIFUL.
And she would never call me a fag.

All the more reason to be grateful for the rise of being a Will or a Grace, right? Now it's kind of mean to no one!

And that is another phrase that I can see that it may have misogynistic weight (I think it's just a benign rhyme), but never has in my world. Almost every girl who hangs around gay guys that I have known has lovingly taken on that term. And, I have called myself a hag fag. And straight boys get fag stag.
Plus, if you think about it, fag and hag are negative words--it's as if both people are reclaiming words and saying F U to the rest of the world.

People are mean to each other. Some people are more sensitive than others.
BTW, use the C word around a lesbian sometime.
