How did you meet said significant other? Me: trite as it may sound, we met in a (gasp) gay bar. 8 years ago, almost 9. Still together and happy as pigs in mud (figuratively, that is).

That's wonderful! I met my husband in a bar as well... actually it was a private party for his friend's building, but I didn't know that. The whole event was very random. It turned out we were both at the same university in different graduate programs. This was about three years ago and we have been married for a little over a year! re: Question for all of you that have a significant other...

Well Dave and I met on a retreat. I was at a small college in Eastern Massachusetts, Dave was at U-Mass. I was still recovering from double pneumonia and a friend thought a long weekend away was just what I needed. It was my friends' brother who introduced us. Dave wasn't even suposse to go on this retreat but changed his mind at the last moment. Funny thing is it was also my birthday. We married a little more than a year later. That was 21 years ago.

Jarico and I met trading music on Napster years ago, but it wasn't until I moved to Chicago and he found me on ICQ that we got to know each other and eventually fell in love. After a few months on the internet, he made his first trip to the US to meet me. The moment we saw each other in the airport, we knew. That was almost three years ago.

I defer this question to Eddie Varley.

Thanks, Margo, I just almost choked on my cereal!

We were introduced by mutual friends - another gay couple who've been together 20 years now.

I met him first at Big Nick's (it's a pizza joint, for you non-NYers) on 71st St, when I was on a date with some dork, but I was stuck next to him in a corner, so we chatted a bit, and he apparently hated me.

Fast forward eight months...we meet again on Friendster. This time, we go out, hit it off *immensely*, and la reste, les enfants, c'est histoire...

God love the internet. (And Big Nick's white pizza.)

Suzanne: I never use catalogs. I'd rather go in the store and see all the salespeople groveling and sucking up to you. Julia: Pardon me, I never knew they were so solicitous at the K-Mart.

I haven't seen it either.

Lived it, but not seen it.

If you haven't lived it at least a little, then you've never been on tour.

It's a long and involved story, and though I'm currently single, I'll share the readers digest version of how I met my ex (who I am still very good friends with)...

A friend of mine (chasing_rainbows) knew him through a show and was after me for about 2 months to come meet him. When she finally introduced us, I was completely taken with him... we only chatted for a few minutes but when he walked away I told her "I'm gonna marry that man."

Alright, so maybe my foresight was a little off, but stranger things have happened lol

i HAVE met a S.O. in a bar, just not the current one. That one was with a bunch of friends who sent me a drink and told Bartender it was from him...because he had been ogling me and telling them how cute he thought i was. i was waiting for a friend to meet me so then we could move on to another event. When my friend showed up and we got ready to leave, i went over to thank future S.O., and he blushed so charmingly, smiled so wide, but couldn't speak. As i got to my truck outside, he came running out of the bar to tell me what had transpired---he couldn't speak because he was shocked---his friends had not told him their little ruse---and he assumed my very handsome friend was more than a friend. Future S.O. was just coming out of the closet, i was in mine, yada yada yada, we saw each other off and on for three years. i wonder about him to this day. He still has part of my heart.

The current S.O. and i met on a business phone call, which was followed by business e-mails that got more and more personal. We finally met for lunch, and now we meet for more than lunch on a regular basis.

It happens when you least think it will.

I do not have a significant other at the moment. However, my brother met his future wife at a funeral when she asked him for a lift home. That was 12 years ago. When they have trouble getting in the moood, they drive past a cemetery.

I have no SO, either...but, my sister and bro-in-law met in one of those snake lines for a ride at Astroworld in TX. They kept staring at each other, and eventually, she asked him out. He's always been the passive one.

I met my significant other at work. Isn't that boring as hell!? LOL! But we've been together for over 16 years, so maybe it's not that boring. We still have so much to talk about! :)

"love stinks" - j geils
"love bites" - def leppard
