Dear Karl(a)--
This is to inform you (and PapaLovesMambo) that you are now OFFICIALLY a TARGET--not a "witness," not a "subject"-- of Patrick Fitzgerald's grand jury.

Have you confirmed that papa is a target??
is that a real picture?
If only.
this isn't gonna be like the last time raw story (and you) breathlessly announced that he'd received a target letter and then had to post a correction (them, not you) saying, "uh, no we was wrong, he didn't actually get one of those."

Target Letter Drives Rove Back to Grand Jury

Karl Rove's appearance before a grand jury in the CIA leak case Wednesday comes on the heels of a "target letter" sent to his attorney recently by Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald, signaling that the Deputy White House Chief of Staff may face imminent indictment, sources that are knowledgeable about the probe said Wednesday.
It's unclear when Fitzgerald sent the target letter to Rove's attorney, Robert Luskin. Sources close to the two-year-old leak investigation said when Rove's attorney received the letter Rove volunteered to appear before the grand jury for an unprecedented fifth time to explain why he did not previously disclose conversations he had with the media about covert CIA operative Valerie Plame and her husband, former Ambassador Joseph Wilson, who criticized the Bush administration's use of pre-war Iraq intelligence.
A federal grand jury target letter is sent to a person in a criminal investigation who is likely to be indicted. A "target" of a grand jury investigation is a person who a prosecutor has substantial evidence to link to a crime....
Target Letter Drives Rove Back to Grand Jury
Who has the shoe polish? I feel like a Happy Dance may be in the making.
You just keep saying that, Papa. ;-}
You just keep saying that.
play the game, harding.
Word is that Rove is trying--DESPERATELY--to work out a "no-jail sentence."
If he can get them to drop the Obstruction of Justice charge and confine it to Lying to Investigators and Perjury Before a Grand Jury, Karl can get convicted wit a Get Out Of Jail Free card.
And Papa--let's confine this thread to the subject at hand and leave off the liberal bashing and PalJoey bashing. UmmmKAY?
i haven't bashed any liberals. nor have i bashed you. i just asked a question and made a statement. sheesh, some people are so sensitive.
And when the Republicans pull out those lies that Valerie Plame was not covert, remind them that Newsweek reported on Fenruary 13 that Plame WAS indeed covert.
Which means that when the Congress changes hands, Bush and Cheney can be impeached for damaging national security.
===
Newsweek:
But special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald found that Plame had indeed done "covert work overseas" on counterproliferation matters in the past five years, and the CIA "was making specific efforts to conceal" her identity, according to newly released portions of a judge's opinion.
The CIA Leak: Plame Was Still Covert
so what you're saying is that the picture is a fake?
After Rove testified, his lawyer issued this statement: "In connection with this appearance, the special counsel has advised Mr. Rove that he is not a target of the investigation."
So apparently the sequence was this:
TWO WEEKS AGO: Rove receives the target letter--which means there is evidence to indict.
LAST WEEK: White House relieves Rove of "policy duties," so his security clearance is no longer be an issue.
TODAY: Rove testifies to the grand jury and emerges no longer a target. Which could mean:
(1) That he cleared himself (unlikely--or his lawyer would have announced that) or...
(2) That he gave evidence implicating others in exchange for Fitzgerald's guarantee of a reduction in sentence.
Who might those others be? Anyone from Andy Card and Alberto Gonzales all the way up to Cheney and Bush himself.
Stay tuned. Every excruciating moment of this ongoing investigation contributes to the general perception of White House wrongdoing. Except for dyed-in-the-wool Republicans who think this is a prosecutor-run-amok, average Americans think that the longer this drags on, the more the fish stinks at the top.
Somebody called the investigation "the longest-running negative ad in the history of politics."
And why is it taking so long? Because the administration is obstructing it!

I guess what you are saying is no perp walk for Rove?
Au contraire! Perp walk for Rove (at reduced sentence) PLUS perp walk for the guy (or gal!) Rove ratted out!

It should be a great few weeks!
And so Rove wakes, STILL in legal jeopardy.
The WaPo says he "still doesn't know if he'll be indicted or not" and the LA Times says Fitzgerald is deciding between perjury and obstruction.
you need a bigger shovel, pal.
Just keep saying that, Papa. Just keep saying that.
You know that Diebold bet you keep talking about in terms of the November elections? How about applying that bet to Rove's future?
You would win if he is NEVER charged with anything. I would win if he (1) is indicted by the grand jury, (2) is charged by the prosecutor but not the grand jury (charged by "information") or (3) plea bargains and implicates other(s).
Willing to put some money where your loyalty to Grandpa Roverer's favorite grandson is? Willing to let some other Rove-haters around here ante up the kitty?
You could pocket a pretty penny if your guy gets off. Of course, not as much as MOST Republicans, but enough for a round of drinks at a BWW event.
Do we have a bet?
now, pj, that's not a very fair bet. if you're that confident, pick charges with which he'll be indicted and we can lay odds on those. yer bet's like most of the hash ya sling around here. you want to lay cash, pick something better than, "if anything happens to him, i win."
let's just keep it simple: $50 says he is not indicted or charged.
