I have 12 and 10 year olds girls, right now C12 is having a hair fit that I not only do not understand and do not even know how to address.
Any general advice on raising Tweens?

It will get easier! One day they will learn that mom and dad really aren't as dumb as they thought they were. Until then just keep breathing.

Shave her!
By 'one day' Mom means sometime AFTER they have left the nest and had to fend for themselves....
Hey Erin is a lot easier, now that she needs us to pay for Loyola!

Hair is a REALLY BIG thing to a 12 year old girl. It's all about image which is all about acceptance. I never raised a boy, so I don't know the male counterpart to a hair crisis. But believe me, this is bigger than hair to her.

The immediate crisis is over for now. Bluemoon, you are correct, I heard the word "ugly" used which is not true.
If you need help with your tweens, ask me because I'm 14 and still remember what it was like.
I still throw fits over my hair.
I plan on throwing a fit next week because I think my dress is ugly.
I'm sorry we're so much trouble.
Why is she having a hair crisis at this time of night? Is she on her way out to deejay at a club?
Don't scare him like that!

Rath - the homwork was finished at 9:15, shower and fit at 9:45 CDT.
It's being frizzy, most likely

Shira - exactly!!! She wanted it blown dry straight which cannot happen at 10:00, she has gorgeous hair like her mother - very thick.
That's how mine is (for those who've seen my hair!)
It's thick, curly, and takes at least an hour to dry and straighten with a 230 degree iron...
It is also very difficult to straighten hair now, as it is rainy and humid outside and it will frizz again as soon as she steps outside!

Not naturally anymore. It was when I was a kid, now it tends to be curlyish. But sometimes I'll straighten it if I have someplace nice to be. Most days my hair is in a ponytail.
Yup she does.
My hair is curly and will remain as such until spring, I think.
Shira, my hair is much thinner than yours, I'm not so lucky with the thick and wavy. Mine looks straight compared to yours!
shira's right, fits over thick, frizzy hair never go away. I bet my dad was probably posting messages like this online 8 years ago, trying to figure out what the hell was the matter with me. Eventually, I just gave up and let it curl.
Regardless of the issue, if she's making a big deal about, it IS a big deal to her, so belittling it will only make her more frustrated and upset.

Skittles, for once I made the right choice. I hugged her and we devised a plan for her for tomorrow.
Thats the way to do it, brd!
