From Page Six:
"HOLLYWOOD bully Tom Cruise got Comedy Central to cancel Wednesday night's cablecast of a controversial "South Park" episode about Scientology by warning that he'd refuse to promote "Mission Impossible 3," insiders say.
Since Paramount is banking on "MI3" to rake in blockbuster profits this summer, and Paramount is owned by Viacom, which also owns Comedy Central, the tactic worked.
The "South Park" episode, "Trapped in the Closet," pokes fun at Scientology and shows Cruise, John Travolta and R. Kelly (who is not a Scientologist, but has a song called "Trapped in the Closet") literally in a closet.
The episode, which first aired last November, was set to rerun Wednesday night, but was mysteriously pulled at the last minute.
Now, hollywoodinterrupted.com reports Cruise went straight to the top - to execs at Viacom - and warned he'd boycott the promotion for "MI3" unless the "South Park" episode was pulled.
Series creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker have been told not to discuss the matter - to avoid embarrassing Cruise as they did Isaac Hayes last week when Hayes, also a Scientologist, quit his role as the voice of the Chef character.
Hayes claimed he couldn't stand by while "South Park" made fun of religion, but Stone pointed out that Hayes had cashed plenty of checks while the show made fun of Christianity, Judaism and Islam. Stone hinted that Hayes was pressed to quit by his minders in the Church of Scientology.
A rep for Comedy Central, asked if Cruise was responsible for the "Closet" episode being yanked, attributed it instead to Hayes' resignation, saying, "In light of the events of earlier this week, we wanted to give Chef an appropriate tribute by airing two episodes he is most known for." But TV insiders weren't buying that explanation.
Now the question is whether Comedy Central will ever again air "Trapped in the Closet" and whether it will be included on the DVD of the show's ninth season.
Cruise has a history of playing hardball. He is allegedly responsible for the missing sex scene his fiancée Katie Homes filmed (before she started dating Tom) in "Thank You for Smoking," which opens today.
And who will ever forget the way Cruise shouted down Matt Lauer on the "Today" show when Lauer argued that some people have been helped by prescription drugs?"

I hate Tom Cruise. At first, I liked him (I ain't gonna lie, Jerry Maguire). Then I was indifferent.
Now I just abhor him. My only hope is that, somehow, the rest of America will catch up and boycott his smelly dwarf films.

I feel like I'm the only person in America who actually couldn't abide Jerry Maguire.
That drunk scene of his convinced me he is perhaps the worst actor to every get $20 million a pic.

People like Tom Cruise always get what's coming to them---who cares if he won't do publicity for the movie? The series (both of them) were better!

if Tom Cruise is gay, which i have no idea if he is or not, why is he being so secretive and covert and basically lying (w/ Katie Holmes) about it?
i know that once upon a time being gay and being in the public eye was taboo, but this is the 21st century and being gay is no big whoop - in fact it's seen as a genetic thing, not a choice, so why deny your genetics?
would people stop going to see Tom Cruise movies? i don't think so, because the movies he usually makes are bigger than he is - i didnt go see "war of the worlds" b/c of him, i didn't go see "mission impossible" because of him either.
when anne heche came out (and went back in) i think she wasn't this big mega star that everybody knows so it was damaging and subject for fodder, but i dont think Tom Cruise should worry if he likes the boys.

I can't believe this. The "Trapped in the Closet" Episode is one of their best episodes of this season. It's just like Tom to cancel it.
And I wonder how much he paid to get the sex scene cut out of Katie's new movie?
I won't see another one of his movies.

There's a reason that no romantic leading man has ever voluntarily come out -- at least during his career -- in Hollywood history. Hollywood is a dream factory and part of a star's appeal is the ability for audience members to be able to use them to fulfill their fantasies about them, If Cruise was known to be gay, he would no longer be a believeable romantic lead or action hero star to a large chunk of the country and he would lose much of his fanbase. Sorry, but that's just the way it is. People might claim to support him as a person, but would they be lining up to the tune of a half billion dollars at the box office to see him play a rugged action star? Nope. Most people are just not that open-minded.

Here was Parker & Stone's statement, BTW (per Andrew Sullivan):
So, Scientology, you may have won THIS battle, but the million-year war for earth has just begun! Temporarily anozinizing our episode will NOT stop us from keeping Thetans forever trapped in your pitiful man-bodies. Curses and drat! You have obstructed us for now, but your feeble bid to save humanity will fail! Hail Xenu!!!
- Trey Parker and Matt Stone, servants of the dark lord Xenu."

Posted: 3/17/06 at 11:47amok maybe perhaps i agree on the romantic lead, but as an action hero? to me, i just don't see how being gay would get in people's with with action films. it's not like he's a capote-esque flamer, he's a butch dude whether he's gay or not. i think before there was only one definition to the mainstream of "gay" and that was effette and lispy, but in today's world there seem to be as many diverse definitions for gay as there are people.

Posted: 3/17/06 at 11:52amI'm not going to use the word hate-it's too strong, and I don't know Tom Snooze personally. I"m going to say I strongly dislike him. I started out as a HUGE fan-his looks and smile sent me into a tizzy, and I thought he was a pretty good actor. Once I noticed through tv interviews that he didn't have a thought in his head and couldn't utter a complete sentence, I began to feel let down and lost a lot of admiration for him. Then with the whole jumping on the couch, stating that psychiatry is a false science, and that all you need to do is eat healthy and work out, etc. etc. and NOW with this strong arming of Paramount-well, I DESPISE him. Won't spend a cent nor a second watching him in anything.

Straight, gay, or on the fence, to me he always comes across as a d--kless wonder.
As Lloyd Benson might say, I grew up watching Rock Hudson. I knew Rock Hudson. Mr. Cruise, you're no Rock Hudson.

Posted: 3/17/06 at 12:03pmMargo, I completely agree with you and understand full well why gay Hollywood remains a secret. But what I find abhorent about the Tom Cruise thing is his ubiquitous and exaggerated determination to PROVE he's hetero. It's offensive to me. It would be offensive coming from a straight man as well.
