Where to start:
First off, I was not saying I dislike gay men. Please. Anyone who knows me, knows I am pro gay rights.
I just made the mistake of taking a date once to a Carol Channing impersonation event and it did not appeal to my date.
He felt uncomfortable at the Duplex. I don't date him anymore but he was hot and I liked him. He thought my friends were to colorful and he was not. Good riddance to him.
This date just wants to spend time with me alone and to be honest if I had to choose on spending a romantic night out with a hot straight guy or a gay event, I would choose the romantic evening with a date.
Gay men are fun but I can't marry them.
But I am and always will be friends with gay men.
I am really sick of all the attacks though.

PS I saw La Cage last week with a straight man.
And my guess if a gay man got asked on a date with a cute guy he liked or he could spend it seeing a show with a girlfriend, my guess is he would go on the date with the hot guy.
It makes perfect sense. Updated On: 6/24/05 at 07:04 AM

It concerns me when everything becomes delineated as being gay vs. straight. I take great exception to the premise that straight men are universally uncomfortable at "gay" events. Personally, as someone who has more than a few friends who are gay and about whom I care greatly, I wouldn't *want* to be in a relationship with a straight man who was unable to evalute either events or my friends on their own merits. For example, my husband has been to several cabarets (a genre previously labeled as "gay" by Corine...) with me. Some he loved, others, not so much...and his reactions were based on the quality of each performance. My "gay" friends? (Not *his* term, mind you...) Again, some *people* he enjoys more than others. That's as it should be.

I'm not being bitchy here, Corine. (Trust me, you'll know if I decide to be bitchy...) But seriously, for your own good since you are a person whose life centers around theater and who professes to be someone who will "always have gay friends"... don't waste your time dating men who are uncomfortable with either if your goal is marriage. You are setting yourself up for a very schizophrenic and repressed future.

Iff,
He just wants to be alone with me. I invited him to the event.
He said he had plans for us at a romantic destination.
Personally, I am not sure if he is the one, but I have to give it a chance.
He is cute, straight and gives incredible massages.
His fingers are magic.
Would you pass up a three hour massage to see Robbie J.
LOL!

Corine - for a one-time event? Yes, I would. Massages you can get anytime.

Dgrant-
For me it is the opposite. It is very hard to find straight dates. I see theatre 3-7 times a week.
I am serious.

Where to start:
Once again, no question mark.

First off, I was not saying I dislike gay men. Please. Anyone who knows me, knows I am pro gay rights.

Once again, you totally miss the point. Are all short people stupid? No one ever said you didn’t like gay men. Quite the contrary, you love gay men just a tad too much, Core. Reread this thread and tell me where anyone accused you of being anti-gay.

I just made the mistake of taking a date once to a Carol Channing impersonation event and it did not appeal to my date.

I have a little secret you need to know. It is a very well kept secret in the gay community, but since you love gay men soooo much I think you should know…A LOT OF GAY MEN HATE CAROL CHANNING AND ESPECIALLY CAROL CHANNING IMPERSONATORS! (Don’t tell any straight people this, it might upset them to know that not all gay people fit your narrow minded stereotypes.)

He felt uncomfortable at the Duplex. I don't date him anymore but he was hot and I liked him. He thought my friends were to colorful and he was not. Good riddance to him.

He was hot and you liked him…so YOU dumped HIM? I wonder if it might be that he dumped you. Thus you are hesitant to take another date there.

This date just wants to spend time with me alone and to be honest if I had to choose on spending a romantic night out with a hot straight guy or a gay event, I would choose the romantic evening with a date.

But God forbid you run into a gay friend or take him to a Movie (cuz straight guys hate theatre, too queer) that may have a gay storyline or character.

Gay men are fun but I can't marry them.

And there is your problem, because you obviously can’t marry a straight man, either. I know all short straight women who are 40 (yes, we know, not till September, but close enough) are totally desperate and will never feel fulfilled unless they are married, even if it is to a homophobe who will not accept her friends.

But I am and always will be friends with gay men.

But will they always be friends with you? Not if you keep displaying such ignorance a stereotype them into a corner.

I am really sick of all the attacks though.
How do you think we feel?

PS I saw La Cage last week with a straight man.
And has he called you back? If not I am sure it has nothing to do with the show.

And my guess if a gay man got asked on a date with a cute guy he liked or he could spend it seeing a show with a girlfriend, my guess is he would go on the date with the hot guy.
Ah, the old Marcia Brady “Something suddenly came up!” excuse. Well, here you may be right. But I know a LOT of people, both gay AND straight, who honor a commitment regardless of what comes through the door. That is what friends do.

So Core, you once again missed the point and avoided answering my questions. And, of course, once again edited your response.

PEACE.

"Straight Guy" says: "I would LOVE to be at Robbie's performance."
Position of authority.

Now, if I had to go on a date with Corine to get there, I'd prefer a sound genital mutilation.

I would like to go on record here and let you know that straight men LOVE me!

And I'm not talking about 'straight' boys who like to have sex with me. I mean like, they just love hanging out with me.

I'm not sure what it's about. Maybe it's because I'm a total filthpot. Growing up with three supremely straight older brothers (all of whom NEVER ONCE uttered the word faggot, at least not in front of me) seems to give me the tools (tee hee) to get along with my straight brethern.

"Gay men are fun but I can't marry them."

Why of course you can, you silly thing. Some gay men have been known to marry woman and sometimes even procreate daughters who grow up to be fixated on other gay men.

i'd like to apologize to anyone who may have taken offense to my earlier remark. while it was not my intention to be exlusionary in any way i can see how some may have misinterpreted my remarks as a rejection somehow of a special bond. this was in no way my intention. i love you all, you know how you are, and if i were to go over, i think you know, you special one, who i mean, and i'm talking directly to you right now, that you'd be the one, or ones, for whom i'd betray marital bliss. i never meant to hurt anybody.

What the *#@&? Papa, you told me that I was the only man. Now I find out that's just a line you hand out the way AOL gives out cd's and free hours.

Corine, sweetie, just for the record, I am totally 100% gay and I find Skipper's act annoying. Any queen worth the title can do a half decent Carol Channing. What's more annoying than an old man doing a tired, lame Carol Channing routine? The tired, lame routine of a Fag Hag or Fruit Fly if you prefere, who professes her LOVE for gay men but is transparent enough that you know where she's really coming from.

First of all: Corine! You should've come to Robbie's show because guess who Robbie and I ran into in front of the Duplex. Yep. Your favorite NY journalist whose initial is M! (Looking svelte and dapper, I might add...)

Second: The show, Phil Geoffrey Bond's My Queer Youth, was excellent. It was a performance of the author telling his story...with wry humor, and without angst...enhanced by songs and a half dozen actors who played various roles that supplemented the story being told. And RobbieJ, once again demonstrated his ability to totally turn into whatever character he is playing, to the point where I forget that I'm watching someone I know. His roles were small, but pivotal. I went to the show because of Robbie, but ended up seeing a show that was special and should be seen even if you *don't* know someone in the cast.

AND we also caught David Gurland's Neurotica cabaret earlier in the evening. I'd seen it at Encores last month. Last night's show was in a new venue that suited it well (and was affordable, with a $12 admission, but NO drink requirement...) David (and his band) were terrific, and the large audience was enthusiastic. Seriously, if Neurotica is scheduled for more dates, it would be a perfect "unofficial" BWW outing.
