Orion- good post on the finale of SATC. The thing with Magda-I can only guess, but Magda always seemed to disapprove of everything Miranda did-she was always making sour faces at her.
As for the movie-I said that because at each interview, the girls keep mentioning a film to follow due to the popularity of the show and the demand for more. I don't care if there's a movie or not, but if there is, I doubt it would be as bad as the ones you mention. HBO puts out some FINE STUFF!!! (:^)
I got that feeling of some back story for Miranda because of the disapproving nature of Magda who finally shows Miranda the approval and respect that possibly Miranda never got from her mother.
I agree that HBO puts out some great progamming but, i can't help thinking that after the way the show ended, there can be no more taht can be said without destroying it. We were left with the feeling taht every character has grown and has realized and found what they've always wanted out of life. I would prefer it to be left that way than to revisit it years from now and find taht Smith left Samantha for a younger woman or that Charlotte is once again having marital problems.
It wouldn't necessarily have to be that way but, it just seems they ended the show with no place to ever take it that wouldn't tear apart the power and happiness that they left each character with.

I agree with your original post about Magda and Miranda - I read deeply into it too and I think it does stem back to her relationship with her mother. Between helping Miranda with the baby and the house and always being a supportive friend, I think Magda has been more of a mother figure to Miranda then her actual mother was.
I agree that the show has ended and ended well. However, we all know that the bottom line is money, and no doubt the film would bring in megabucks. I just heard that it would not be HBO putting out the film, so now it makes more sense. Perhaps HBO had the integrity to leave well enough alone, but another studio sees an opportunity. Of course HBO stands to make money on this also. Who knows what's going on~
Regarding a film, I don't think it would be out of place to keep the story going. The subtle changes in the characters as they undergo various stages of relationships was the essence of the show. Who knows how married life with Big will affect Carrie, or a baby with Charlotte, or a live-in mother-in-law with Miranda, or post-cancer survival with Samantha. These are all HUGE issues that could easily be explored. Maybe it's just me, but I think the series ended too soon. The show never seemed tired or overdone. The characters still had a lot of room to grow. Had all the characters seemed settled into their lives or were just reaoting the same crap every week, maybe I could see a reason to end the show, but with so much turbulence still in their lives and given the popularity of the show, it could have easily continued another two seasons. Were the girls just tired of doing it?
*sigh*
At least we'll have the DVDs.
I'm torn on the issue of whther or not it should have ended or gone on for another season or two. I'll miss the show but, at the sme time,I think it was a smart idea to end it now. True, they could have gone further, there is a lot more there that they could have built upon and the show has not gotten tired and stale. However, as one of the producers so perfectly put it last night, "you never want to be the last to leave a party. You always leave when the party is at it's crest".
Had they stayed around another few saesons, we may not have cared as much about the show ending. This way, the fans are left with the feeling that they didn't get enough and will always remember the show as one that never wore out it's welcome.
That's HBO's brilliant programming strategy. They ended OZ (my favorite) way before it got tired, now SATC, and then it will be the Sopranos.
I also felt Oz could have gone a few more seasons. There still is Six Feet Under, The Wire, The Sopranos and Carnivale. Hopefully, they will last a few more seasons.
It was very touching. I will miss it, it was the only show (sitcom other then Will AND Grace that i loved)
I am really sad it is over.
I can't believe i cried for tv characters. But i did.
I am happy with the ending.
The show will be missed. Wish it is a cruel joke and it will be back very soon.
Oh and hope to see Magda at the Drama Desk awards again this year.

Steve's last name is Brady. Miranda's last name is Hobbs. Miranda being a single mother (at the time) named the baby Brady Hobbs. Now that she is married to Steve, is the baby's name Brady Brady? Was this addressed on the show? Why am I still thinking about SATC?
The baby will probably continue to be Hobbs since Miranda is not the type to adhere to the belief that the wife and children are the husband's possesion and therefore takes his name. That's where the name change custome originates, from a time when women were bartered off and "given away" by their fathers. that custom really needs some updating. I know of a couple who, hen they married, took the first letters of his name and the alst few of her name to craete a new family name. That's a much better sentiment, two people blending together as one new family
ok not to be a pain, and I did scan quickly through this thread, but am I the only one to pick up on the mistake of the title of this thread being named "SITC" and not "SATC"?
You won't believe how many times I've heard people jump on someone for saying "Sex in the City" instead of "Sex and the City". So I'm not meaning to jump.....just commenting
