I thought this was one of the best shows of the season so far.
I've already said this, but I LOVE What's Up With That. I can't get enough of that skit. Those little mini Diondre's killed me!
Bobby was perfection as Snookie. That bit wouldn't have been funny if a female had played her.
and bwaylvsong, I cracked up everytime they started dancing,too!..When Keenan brought the water in.. lol.

I definitely do think it was the best of the season.
Next new episode will have Charles Barkley as host. That will be interesting. The last time he hosted Nirvana was the musical guest.

"The Vincent Price sketch had me on the floor!"
Really? On the floor?

Best episode of the season. LOVED it. Franco did not disappoint!
I thought it was kind of weird that Franco was called on to sing in 4 sketches when it is very clear that, talented as he may be, he can't sing. Not that it wasn't funny... just an observation.

I thought it was the best of the season (but, unlike most of you, I enjoy it from week to week). I thought just about every sketch killed. I thought Franco was fantastic. I thought Snooki was hilarious. I thought I might die when Bill Haider and James Franco made out.
And I will NEVER EVER tire of What Up With That? Jason Sudekis's dancing never fails to slay me (not literally, Luscious).
I hope some of the featured girls get bumped up next year. I think they are all really great, and I am constantly amazed how Jenny Slate looks completely different from sketch to sketch.

Posted: 12/20/09 at 1:13pmI agree that they need to bump up those featured players. And they need some more color. Can they not find one black woman or latina?

Posted: 12/20/09 at 1:32pmIs there a reason they do the same exact skit with the same exact joke over and over and over? I watch SNL from time to time- I saw the "Lawrence Welk" sketch with the freaky sister act a few weeks back. Tonight, they basically redid the sketch- the jokes are the same, the set-up is is the same, the only difference is they added James Franco as a Latin Crooner. The Kissing Family was exactly the same- just added Franco. That BET sketch- I admit, I just don't understand why it's funny and yet they have done the exact same one-joke thing week after week after week. Does the host come in and say I loved that sketch from a month ago, I want to do it again.

Reoccurring character sketches have always been the same. Same set, up same punch lines. Look back at Pat, Toonces,Church Lady, Anal Retentive Chef, Wayne's World etc.
Much like a well loved comedy movie, knowing the set up and punch-line before hand doesn't mean that one does not enjoy it again.
I adore the Lawrence Welk show and laughed my butt off at the "I like cracking nuts!" lyric, even if I knew where the sketch was going. I too find Jason's dancing a great reason to bring back "What Up With That?", I laughed my ass off ( a figure of speech Luscious) last night watching him, A pure joy!

Bobby was hilarious as Snooki. One of the highlights of an excellent show for me.
I think my favorite sketch was the Vincent Price Christmas Special. Wiig as Hepburn had me rolling with laughter.
I also love Jenny Slate, I hope she becomes one of the main players.
And how adorable is Jason Sudekis? Along with Seth Meyers and Andy Samburg. Speaking of which, I loved the pajamas digital short.

"Reoccurring character sketches have always been the same. Same set, up same punch lines."
You can go back earlier than that, even (gasp!) to the sacred and holy original cast, who, in the memories of the people who have done nothing but complain about how downhill the show has gone since 1975, could do no wrong: Roseanne Roseannadanna, The Killer Bees, Landshark, Emily Litella, Lisa Loopner and Todd Labounta, The Festrunk Brothers, Judy Miller, and on and on and on.
I have never seen Jersey Shore but caught a glimpse this afternoon and saw the woman Moynihan was parodying. I would say he nailed it. Even though you could see his chest hair.

I have no problem with the re-occurring sketches as long as they're funny. So let that be Doorbell Lady, Vincent Price, Lawrence Welk, etc.
I personally think SNL is at it's best when it is random and nostalgic rather than topical. The Jammies sketch really makes no sense whatsoever and neither did Underground Underground a couple weeks back but they were some of the funniest things SNL has done this season.
I've loved Jenny Slate since VH1 so I am glad she has shown her stuff after the 'f-bomb' incident- which was not that big of a deal. Also glad that the women got more to do this week.
I read somewhere that James is pretty tight with some of the SNL cast members (there was that cameo in What Up With That?) so I wonder if they just put a little more effort into last night.

No, the cast and crew at SNL are professionals and they give it their ll every week. It is just that some weeks the Host is not able to handle the material or, things don't click properly. These are the joys and sorrows of doing a LIVE television show. When it works, it is brilliant, when it fails it fails spectacularly. There is no going back and editing or redoing a scene.
When a Host is comfortable with
it, it shows. Like James Franco. Can he sing? No! But he sang badly with so much heartfelt conviction and immersing himself into the characters that we bought it.

Posted: 12/20/09 at 10:52pmI wasn't necessarily saying they throw in the towels in other weeks but I think them knowing James quite well already brought another dynamic and energy to the episode, and that is usually the case with good hosts (who could also just be strangers to the cast).

I've had "What Up With This?" stuck in my head since Saturday. It wasn't a strong sketch, but the song is just catchy.
As for favorite sketches, my vote goes for 'Mark Walburgh talks to Christmas Animals' ("Hey patridge, what's up? Where's your pear tree? Oh, there it is. Say hi to your mother for me!") I also enjoyed the Vincent Price Christmas special. I felt the Telemundo sketch was weak, it was funny when they first started to dance but after the tenth time or so? Not as funny.
