Neve Campbell and the Cox-Arquettes to return for a new trilogy.
They must really need the money.

Blaxx, this totally just made my night. Hopefully these films (if done by Wes Craven himself) can revitalize the horror genre again the same way they did almost 14 years ago.
I love the Scream movies too. I look forward to them.
LOL
It's great to have the original team back together. The 3rd movie REALLY missed the mark with the script, due to Kevin Williamson not writing it. Can't wait for it!
I was so into the Scream trilogy, and this makes me feel old. I still remember somehow lying to go see Scream 3 on opening weekend when I was only 13.
I loved Scream 1 & 2, but 3 just sucked. I hope they update the concept to satirize the most recent trends in horror. Could be fun.
I thought ONE MISSED CALL was self-parody?
Miike molested like that. For shame.

Well, if it really is more like the original Scream and Scream 2, then I say go for it. Horror movies since then have sucked majorly.
I watched the opening sequence of the first one on Showtime the other night. It was still freaky.
I love the original Scream. The opening sequence is fantastic.
I grew up as a huge horror movie fan and SCREAM came out at JUST the right time to inspire me and keep me invested in the genre. If we remember, the late 80s/90s up until that point was, save SILENCE OF THE LAMBS, a wasteland of bad horror. SCREAM changed everything.
Even as an avowed, jaded, fan of the genre not even I saw the twist in SCREAM 2 which is why I always put it on my list of "Sequels That Work As Well As The Original On Their Own Terms".

P.S. SPOILER: Crazy "Aunt Jackie" indeed!

I was JUST watching Scream 3 when I saw this thread. I can't wait for Scream 4 especially with Kevin Williamson writing & Wes coming back if the script is good.
I agree, P. I never thought Scream 2 would go the way it did. Excellent twist that worked perfectly!
And Jada's demise on the movie theater's stage, pleading for help, as the mask and STAB is projected on her face NEVER fails to give me chills.
A wonderful syllogistic homage to Argento's QUATRE MOCHE DE VELUTTO GRIGIO (FOUR FLIES ON GREY VELVET) just as Drew's demise in the first film was to Argento's SUSPIRIA. Love all that Argento love.

It's funny, with most other movies that ended their stories so long ago, this would seem like a cheap ploy for the studios to make some money, but this seems like a genuinely good and EXCITING idea, unlike remakes of Halloween, Friday the 13th and *shudder* Elm Street. And with the promise of not one but THREE films, I'm sure Williamson already knows the direction each one will take which can only serve to make them better.
Can't wait!

I'm in the minority as I liked the third one the best. I thought it was the funniest. And I love Carrie Fisher's cameo.
I couldn't agree more, Jordan.
I really would like to see the workprints of THE FACULTY, KILLING/TEACHING MRS. TINGLE and CURSED because Williamson knows what he's doing and the directors mucked up those movies pretty badly. The shooting scripts are quite good and in the case of CURSED the resulting film bore little to no resemblance to its source at all which is a big reason why it is so terrible (and bad CGI and perpetually drunk Ricci didn't help). It doesn't take much for a bad director to turn a good script into an incoherent mess, believe me, I know.
LOVE Bebe in THE FACULTY and Mirren in TINGLE!
I'd love to see Williamson and Roth team up for a real, all-out giallo in the Argento vein. They could re-invent the genre, they really could. They've both done it once before. Who knows, maybe Wes will pass and Roth will take the reins on S4. If anyone can out Wes Wes it would be Roth, love him or hate him.

They didn't revitalize the genre. They killed it.
