So we all cry when a Broadway show closes and call people rude for saying "oh glad that show is closing" but this we're all happy about? I mean, sure, the whales were allegedly mistreated - I never saw Black Fish - but the park employs a TON of people.

I know somebody who will occasionally post about all the "lies" told in Blackfish, not realizing he's a perfect example of some of the very issues raised. He was originally hired down in San Antonio as a diver in one of their shows, was later hired as a handler in one of their bird exhibits and is now a trainer with the sea lions. He majored in theatre before leaving college early. Any training or experience he has working with these animals came directly from Sea World. He has no background in marine biology or animal behavior or any related field, but because he works for Sea World many people will believe that he is an expert in the care of these animals.

If you saw Blackfish you'd understand that it's not allegations being thrown around. It's more that Sea World had been wrong doers all this time and finally got caught so to speak via Blackfish. Now that that's the case. They have been airing commercials saying that the animals there are well taken care of etc. To me, that's clear damage control plain and simple. Yes, it's wrong when people have negative comments about a show closing. But, a the same time, there hasn't been a Broadway show that is knowingly mistreating animals and sweeping that fact under the rug.
Yes, SeaWorld does employ a ton of people in various positions. And, yes, should the park close, they will be out of work. However, the park shouldn't stay open (any of them) because they treat the animals that they have there like crap.

Yeah, I don't think since Jumbo was on Broadway has there been animal rights abuses on Broadway. Totally different ballpark here.

Also animal mistreatment is a total understatement. For those who do not know much about orca whales and how they live in the wild, their social structures, family attachments, and the depth of their emotional intelligence, parks like sea world really causes extreme physical, emotional, and psychological harm to the whales. Then there's all the cover-ups and shifting of blame to the victims when the foreseeable consequences causes harm and death to the trainers.

I agree with RippedMan. The unemployed should be put to work kicking puppies and drowning kittens. A job's a job. Maybe they could film it for YouTube, we'd all get a kick out of that.
Oh, and if you care about whales but support a woman's right to choose you're a hypocrite.

I can understand why people would say that if you're against animal cruelty but pro life then you're a hypocrite. I do fully understand that notion. However, I honestly feel that that is an overly simplified comment/viewpoint to a situation that has a lot of moving parts.
