Yeah - Eric has kids - In his bio it states that Sean does not discuss his private life in public.

IMO I think his choice not to talk about his sexuality is pretty admirable.

I've been thinking: Ricky Martin has taken a lot of flack from the same people who applaud Sean Hayes for not talking about his sexuality. Double standard?

I pretty much have established that I feel the sexual orientation thing is no one's business - and frankly, a pretty distasteful gossip topic. But if this latest tid-bit about Mr. Hayes is in fact true, I wonder if any of the sanctimonious 'outers' that are caterwauling over the AUDACITY for him to show some propriety are going to be as public in their apology as they have been in their condemnation?

Well, first of all, we're not 10% of the population by a long, long shot. Realistic estimates are somwhere between 2 and 5 percent.

Second of all, why are so many people irony challenged? If the transcript presented above is accurate, it would appear to me that Hayes was being ironic, dontchya think? On a couple of levels. Those words remind me of the sort of thing Nathan Lane used to say before he Made it Official.

Third of all, like many in this thread, I can not WAIT for Stanley Stevens to explain just WHAT makes somebody like Sean Hayes the most despicable ANYTHING in Hollywood???? I mean, CHRIST.

Fourth, Rathnait62's "Rosie Problem." How anybody who spends so much time going on about her assorted "hubbies" on here could possibly hold a fantasy even involving somebody as creepy as a height-challenged Scientologist simply boggles the mind. Of course, it's pathological.

Someone posted personal awareness that Sean is, in fact, straight. So I'm wondering if those who are screaming about him being 'despicable' are going to apologize as loudly if that is, in fact, true?

Because it matters. It matters if you keep your sexuality from your friends and families and neighbors. It matters because they love and respect you and they don't know you. Because being gay does not define you but it is an impportant part of who you are and it has little to do with what you do in bed. because it matters. it matters.

Well, has Ricky Martin ever come out and said he doesn't want to talk about his sexuality like Sean Hayes did? Ricky Martin would probably be an example of covering up the obvious so he would still make money, whereas with Sean Hayes I think its more of an artistic decision, but I could be wrong of course.

I do feel that the privacy argument is a slippery slope in a world of presumptive heterosexuality. It just goes without saying in our vapid celebrity drenched entertainment industrial complex (the opiate of the modern masses), most celebrities yack on and on about their husbands and wives and their dating habits and their children.

So it is weird to see the press back away from discussions of homosexuality and claim that the closeted gay person has a right to privacy when that's really not why the media outlet in question isn't talking about it. The media outlet in question isn't talking about because it makes THEM uncomfortable.

On the other hand, I'm STILL waiting to hear how Sean Hayes is the "most despicable" anything anywhere. Steven Steven, can you hear us????

if we speak about Sean's boyfriend it's distasteful....so anyone speaking about their boyfriend/girlfriend is considered to be engaging in distasteful conversation.

DG, it's only distasteful because it makes you uncomfortable.

DG, sexual orientation is nobody's business? Are you kidding? It's a multi-million dollar business.

Chita - if someone's in a partnership and wants to expose it to the world - including the fact of children, if they're involved - then that's their business. That's ALWAYS been my point - it's THEIR business.

But that isn't what I've sensed through all of this - it's all about the sexual orientation and whether or not it's discussed openly.

For the record, I really long for the 'days gone by' when you just didn't talk about certain things in public - like how much you make, what religion you asuage your fear with - or who you F*CK and HOW.

Chita - no, I think conversation about someone that you have no real knowledge of is distasteful. And, believe me, the 'facts' surrounding sexuality don't make me uncomfortable at all. People who are willing to co-opt other people's right to privacy or individual freedom because of their own personal agenda goes WAY beyond making me 'uncomfortable' - it makes me physically sick.

This type of thinking is the complete antithesis of what it is that you are claiming you are fighting for.
