WELL...first of all, I feel like I've lost 10 pounds. Good times.
Secondly, Kurt Vonnegut's God Bless You, Mrs. Rosewater was turned into a musical...though I have no idea if he was involved (my guess would be no).
But, alas, where I heard that particularly terrific phrase was on Broadway, being uttered by dreamy Sean Cassidy in BLOOD BROTHERS. Da-doo-run-run, indeed!

Posted: 1/30/06 at 4:48pmBack to Sean Hayes - pardon me for being niave, but maybe with him being busy and successful and all, he just doesn't have room for a personal life right now. Screaming your sexuality - gay or straight - would be more inviting of a relationship, and perhaps he just isn't in a place where he wants to juggle an SO and a very busy career. It happens. And perhaps then he's not such a "hypocrite."

That is very bad thinking. Whether or not he is in a relationship or even having sex has nothing to do with his sexuality. It's the ignorant public (not you) that links gay sex and gay sexuality.
Just look at all those gay priests who took a vow of...ok, bad example. But you get my point.

"*Screaming* your sexuality - gay or straight - would be *more* inviting of a relationship."
I chose my words carefully. I didn't say telling your sexuality, but waving it on a banner and proclaiming it at every interview and PR opportunity. Tom Cruise, anyone?
And I'm not saying that proclaming himself gay is an automatic invitation. Notice the word "more."
I just think that if someone chooses to make their career their main priority, then that's their absolute choice and it shouldn't be jumped all over. To me, it appears that this is the case - he seems to be focusing on his roles more than parading a partner (of either sex!) down the red carpet.

Going way back in the thread, to me one of the great mysteries of Will & Grace has always been why Jack is supposed to be this attractive. I do not think Sean Hayes is very attractive at all. I mean, he's not unattractive. He's not really anything. If he falls in any category, he's a little funny looking.
'course he doesn't date especially attractive boys on the show either.
Will & Grace has never made any sense. After all, Eric McCormack is a devastatingly attractive guy (who does get the more attractive boyfriends on the show, now that I think about it), but apparently he's supposed to be "fat and plain looking"?
But no... Sean Hayes could never be a matinee idol.
Why don't Eric and Debra get along?

The only person who thinks Will is "fat and plain looking" is Jack. I think he's not fat and plain looking, but I know that as an audience member, I'm supposed to think Will is hot.
I don't think the audience is supposed to think Jack is super attractive. I think Jack thinks Jack is super attractive.

LOL.
So no one answered my question: what did Sean Hayes say at the SAG Awards? I have no problem with him wanting to keep his life private, but if he's criticizing a movie about the portrayal of masculine gay men hiding in the closet, he's hardly the one to speak, playing a one-dimensional fairy minstrel on TV while proving in life why Jack and Ennis hide their sexuality -- because of the ramifications of being "found out."

SEAN HAYES: Wow, this is truly - my heart's racing, I can't believe it. I first of all would like to thank Ang Lee for taking a chance on me. [laughter/applause] Clearly, I did not fail him because I'm here. [laughter] And I know everyone in Hollywood, you know, knows that it's such a risk to play a gay character, and... [laughter] sure I had some reservations, but... because of the success of my film, think of the opportunities I'll have now. [laughs] I'm kidding.
No, I would like to thank, at this time, because it's the last season of "Will & Grace," it really is kind of a sad goodbye to all of my best friends that I work with every day, and everybody that works in the show. And the cast and crew, they are going to miss me. [laughter] But most of all, and most importantly, all of the actors who thought this actor had an ounce of talent. I thank you. Thank you. [applause]

Yeah, that speech sounds pretty tame to me. A small dig against the hoopla surrounding the "risk" of playing gay, but other than that, pretty innocuous.
Alright, no more evil eye towards Hayes from me.

Seems like an attack on Hollywood ("And I know everyone in Hollywood, you know, knows that it's such a risk to play a gay character"), not really BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN.
Don't forget, it's the media that's hyping up how "risky" it is to play gay. I don't remember the cast and crew of BROKEBACK saying that.

If you're thinking about his sexuality instead of his performance then something is wrong. 3. I think people put to much emphasis on their sexuality. When it comes down to it it's just your romantic and sexual interests. It doesn't change who you are, deep down. Ironically, he plays a character that emphasizes his sexuality to get laughs, but that obviously is not who he is. I'm not saying being closeted is right. It's not. But maybe he isn't closeted amongst people in his personal life. I would kind of feel uncomfortable with people all around the world knowing details personal to my life. I still don't see how you could ever consider him despicable though.

Posted: 1/30/06 at 8:00pmI have not forgotten that wizard - neither has Sean. If the cast of Brokeback would say something to them in interviews to that effect I don't think it would be a big issue at all. But the Brokeback Boys feed into it, how mwny times has Sean been interviewed about his character and no one seems to make a fuss - I totally get what he was going for in his speech.
