Can we talk about things that are petty and of no real import in this thread? For example, I just want to say that--
I think the President is really handsome. (What a gorgeous couple we have in the White House! And their daughters, how cute are they?)
I love Michelle's outfit today.
Jill Biden wears great boots.
Yes, this thread is all about superficiality. I know, I know. You never thought there was a "superficial" aspect to Politics. Well, I'm here to tell you otherwise. Sorry to burst your bullet-proof bubble.
their daughter are absolutley gorgeous.
I was discussing it with my government class today

They're bringing back style to the white house! They're painting it cream for a start!
Let's talk about Aretha's HAT!
Jill Biden was completely rocking those boots. Both she and Michelle looked fantastic!
Aretha's hat was a little tragic.
Aretha's?

The fabric of Michelle's dress could've been taken straight from my grandmother's armchair. Didn't care for it.
ohhh Aretha.....

Aretha, you better think...think about the consequences of that hat!

Michelle was a real standout. I loved that diamond necklace/collar, and the color of her outfit and gloves were just beautiful. Harry Reid is an itty bitty thing. The Obama girls are just precious. Joe Biden was so eloquent and he really has a dynamite smile. The Carters got SO old. Yay--John Cusack! WTF was with the hat, Aretha? Jill Biden, Hillary Clinton and Laura Bush all looked lovely. Bill Clinton's charisma still comes through the TV even though he's clearly aged. John Boehner is one angry, handsome bastard. Mrs. Cheney had the bitchface plastered on, and her husband was Mr. Potter reincarnate...a warped, frustrated old man!
Excellent summation, blueroses!
I loved the musical ensemble with Yo Yo Ma.
I love Yo Yo Ma generally.
Ah, the voice of dissent~
I didn't care for Michelle's suit at all. I thought it was drab and I didn't like the shade of the gloves with the suit. So far, I haven't been a fan of her taste in clothes, but so what.
I got a chuckle from Aretha's hat and thought everyone looked perfectly groomed and classy!

Aretha's hat was the shrewdest piece of fashion of the whole damn weekend. You looked at IT and not her girth.
Does she have her bras specially made or do you think she buys them off the rack?
If Michelle was wearing your Grandmother's couch, you must have a very classy Grandmother.
Didn't the words "former Vice President Dick Cheney" make you feel all warm and toasty?
That Jon Bon Jovi is just good enough to eat.
It wouldn't seem like such a big bow if she had it around her waist, but around her head...it was rather distracting.
But good for her.
Maisie, I thought the same thing about Bush.
watching the parade right now...
has Michelle been wearing those shoes all day?
This thread is more amusing than I even thought it would be!
WOSQ, hilarious comments!
Reg, how can anyone dislike a person named "Yo Yo" ??????
The commentators also mentioned how he's aged, Reg. They said the presidency will do that to ya.
I liked Aretha's hat. It was like something out of a screwball comedy of the 30's or a costume from No, No Nanette or something. It was saved by its color. The grey toned it down! (Could you imagine it in RED or PURPLE?)
Of course, I would never wear that hat, but, then again, I'm not freaking Aretha Franklin! She can do whatever the hell she wants!
Reg--I forgot the most amazing thing about the Yo-Yo Ma and Itzhak Perlman "Simple Gifts" was that it became noon during it--and that was when Obama became president, not during the swearing in.
