I loved all of it.
I loved the class exhibited by the former first family leaving Washington.
I loved the smiles on the new first daughters.
I loved the poise of the new First Lady.
I loved Aretha's hat.
I loved the 'Simple Gifts' performance.
I loved that everyone felt uplifted and unified while watching this grand historic event.
I loved the looks on the faces of the people in the crowd.
I loved the patriotism.
I loved the Poem.
I loved that we have a peaceful transfer of power - marked by ceremony and tradition.
I love my new President.
I loved all of it.

Hee hee, Un-C! Now we know, it's not that she doesn't care about the comfort and well-being of Katrina victims...she doesn't care about the comfort and well-being of ANYONE, not even her husband!
Just happened to catch it this morning!

Posted: 1/20/09 at 9:55pmI just watched a little of the Inaugural Ball on ABC. I loved Beyonce's dress. I also liked Michelle Obama's dress, but I didn't love it. There was something about it I kind of thought was weird. And Kate Walsh looked bad, which I am ashamed of.

I've been channel surfing between CNN and MSNBC all day, nonstop since around 9am, with a brief jump to ABC for the Obama's first dance at the Neighborhood Ball. At some point this afternoon, Rachel Maddow said, "For us civics dorks, this is bigger than Christmas".
I share addy's enthusiasm for just about every moment of the day, including the class exhibited by the George and Laura Bush and their daughters.
I'm 47 years old, and I've voted every year since I turned 18, but I've never been as engaged in any election is this year. One of the benefits is that my daughters, including my 13 year-old, are more informed about politics than most adults.
It will be refreshing for Americans who travel abroad to no longer have to lie and say they're Canadian.

Brian Williams just reported the following:
"What are the Obama girls doing tonight?
They have movies and are having friends over for a party.
They have Bolt and High School Musical.
...It turns out they now have a family theatre!"
(I think I love that most of all. It reminds me of the movie "American President", when President Andrew Shepard says "It turns out, I have a rose garden!")

Posted: 1/20/09 at 11:06pmI think the girls are having a great time, but I'd bet a lot of money that Marian Robinson is keeping them in line.

Mad, I'll bet you back that Marian Robinson is "bending the rules" a little tonight! Imagine how she's feeling tonight?

One shallow thing we didn't discuss (which was discussed on another site) is the awkward breath Aretha took after the first syllable of the word "Country" when she started "My Coun...try 'Tis of Thee."
Was anyone else shocked?

Posted: 1/20/09 at 11:58pmUm, how did they get Bolt? It's not out on DVD yet! Already the Obamas are pulling strings! I'm just jealous because I loved that movie and I can't wait for it to come out on DVD!

Posted: 1/21/09 at 12:03amPhyllis, they have their own theatre. They get to view movies that are theatrically released before they come out on DVD. I wonder if they're passed out by now though!

#95re: Shallow Reflections on the Inauguration, DC and So Forth
Posted: 1/21/09 at 12:24amPalJoey....Funny you should mention that. I watched Aretha about 4 times. It was a close call....but she seperated the word properly.

"Or the Obamas those parents that the their kids have sleepovers on weeknights?"
^ if they're as cool as they seem like they would be, I bet they are, lol.
Did anyone else watching CNN notice the stupid "facts" that CNN had flashing every few minutes? The only informative one was that Barack Obama is the 4th youngest president. I don't need CNN's screen-hogging captions to tell me "Fact: Aretha Franklin is singing 'My Country 'Tis of Thee' right now."

Jessica, that is SO funny. I did not see that "fact" about Aretha and what she was singing. That is rather lame!
But I have to say that I am astounded at the news media's complete lack of fashion knowledge. They asked someone which designer she was wearing and she said, "Georgette." And the news people were going, "See! I told you it was some designer down in Florida." I mean, if you don't know anything about a topic, just don't go there!
Anyway, I watched it all and now I have tears running down my face. But tomorrow I will wake up to a new America. We all will--whether we like it or not.
After all, change is inevitable.

Posted: 1/21/09 at 2:17amOkay, I am probably the biggest weirdo for this one, but for some odd reason with today's festivities, I kept thinking about "You Can't Stop the Beat" from Hairspray. I know, this is much bigger than that, but it really got me thinking.
