Hot or not?
I love it. I had it recently at Playwrights Tavern and it sucked.
It is such a fattening dish, I only get it twice a year. Where can you get a good Shepherds Pie?

Do you mean "Shepherd's Pie" or "Shepard's Pie"? Shepherd's pie is only good when shepherds are in season. I made it once using canned shepherd and it wasn't piquant enough for my tastes.

My mother tried to make shepard's pie once. It didn't bake enough or something, and came out like this big blob. And usually, my mother is a pretty decent cook.

It's made from leftover mashed potatoes.
The only one I ever tasted was made with chicken (instead of beef). I loved it.

Shepherd's pie:
Chop up some cooked leftover beef (stew meat, steak, hamburger, whatever). Optional: add some onions and/or mushrooms. Put it all in a casserole dish with enough brown gravy to cover. Top it all off with a layer of mashed potatoes. Bake it in the oven unitl the potatoes are slightly browned.

We used to make this all the time in school
The best way we found to make it was using leftover hamburger or new hamburger. Then we would usually put a layer of corn on top of that and then the layer of mashed potatos. Served with Beef gravy on top. So tasty. I've always wanted to try it with lamb, but my taste exceedes my wallet!

Sorry, I couldn't resist. And the answer is very hot.

Posted: 4/10/05 at 2:22pmIt's good stuff, but I too, can't find a place in the city that makes it well. I like it with burger/corn/mashed potatoes. Carrots and peas are fine, but I need the corn in there too.
