i was trying to make out what joy was saying in response to elisabeth's sarcastic "relax... relax... relax"... sounds like she said "obama's winning... relax..."
funny

OK, I watched the clip. Sherri did have a point there.
But here's why I can't give her much credit. No matter how ridiculous Elisabeth's arguments may be, or how obnoxious she gets during these shoutouts, we all know that politics is something she's passionate about and that she's been following all during the years she's been on the show, at least. She's current with events.
Sherri, on the other hand, up to today, has had nothing whatsoever to say about politics. In fact, she stays out of those conversations, wisely. And the few times I've seen her open her huge mouth to interject, they all shut her up.
I think they told her to become familiar with the events and people involved in this election. Whatever she said today, I believe, she just read. But she was acting like it's something she's been compassionate about her whole llfe.
Rant over!

Actually she has been pretty honest about not being to educated on politics. I actually think it is good to see someone educate themselves and come to their own conclusion. There are a lot of people out there that have never paid attention or given a dam and now they are registering and going to vote. Nothing wrong with trying to educate yourself now.

Only watching FoxNews and taking all your talking points from Sean Hannity is not "keeping up with current events". I give Sherri credit for beginning to take an active interest in what's going on with the world. By immersing herself in a FoxNews and Sean Hannity bubble, this is something Elisabot has yet to do.

Posted: 10/7/08 at 2:09pmDame, that would be nice if she decided to educate herself. I don't know if that's the case or if it was done for the show, as their directive.

I'm not a fan of Sherri, either. But I don't see a particular difference between her (belatedly, I admit) boning up so she can discuss these issues and Elisabeth downloading Republican talking points into her brain.
In other words, it's not as though Elisabeth approaches any of this philosophically or with any sort of insight, any more than Sherri.
Conversely, I think Sherri "did as well" today as Elisabeth ever does.

Posted: 10/7/08 at 2:38pmWhatever the reason she is boning up I have seen Sherrie be on both sides of the political argument. Elizabeth is just using someone else's talking points. Makes me want to squash her like a roach.

I'm actually a bit of a Sherri fan - let me explain... Whether we want to admit it or not, I think Sherri represents a large part of the country. I don't think a lot of people are necessarily well versed in politics the way Joy, Barbara, Elizabeth and Whoopi are. I am not - or should say, wasn't. Some of the stupid comments and questions that Sherri has made/asked are things I was unclear on as well. I applaud her for not being afraid to participate when she does, and applaud her for asking questions that I, personally, have been afraid to ask my extremely well-versed partner for fear of looking dumb. And whether or not she was asked to bone up on the issues, or did it on her own, my situation is very similar. This presidential race has sparked something in me, and I've gone out and read, watched, listened and learned - as have several other people I know. I could talk about reality television for hours with Sherri, but also think she and I could now sit and have the beginnings of an intelligent political conversation as well.
All that being said, I don't always agree with her - just as not everyone always agrees with me.

Otis, I made that same remark on another thread. At first I wondered why she was on the show, but then I posted the same thing you said about representing a certain faction of the population, mentioning the same things you did.
If I had never heard her remark about not wanting to be bothered about knowing if the earth was round, and some other really stupid things which showed a lack of concern about knowing things, I wouldn't be so bothered about her being on the show.
That's the beauty of the US-you can be stupid and make lots of money!

Posted: 10/7/08 at 8:22pmA reminder that during Rosie's time, Elisabeth was the ONLY woman on the panel who was prepped before the show every day. I have a feeling she may be doing more "research" herself nowadays... but she must be reading all those papers that Sarah Palin gets.

I am quiet impressed with Sherrie. She clearly has been studying her issues. And she I love that 'please bitch' look she gives as well.
The fact is Elizabeth properly has legitimate views - she just cannot present coherantly them if her life depended on it.

"Well, Im sorry, but I think at least most American people know that the Earth isn't square."
It's not only that she didn't know the earth was round, it's her whole attitude when she said "Oh please, I never was bothered wondering about that, I was too busy worrying how to feed my kid."
Um, excuse me, Sherri, but we learn about the earth in primary school. Did you have a kid then?

I agree, Jane.
Also, I thought she had the air of feeling like the question was somehow a trap. Like, "Where is this going? If I admit the earth is round, they're going to question the divinity of Jesus" or something.

"I'm not on either political side, so carry on~"
and THAT is exactly the problem with America and the average American....pick a darn side Jane.
The days of not being on a "political side" are OVER....every voice and vote counts.

Posted: 10/8/08 at 11:33amWell, I thought The View kinda chickened out today. They only discussed the debate for a little bit and everyone was on their good behavior. They quickly changed the subject to Breast Cancer. I think they could have reserved the Breast Cancer show for their Friday taped show and spent a little more time on politics today- that's just my opinion. I guess since Barbara didn't come on, they couldn't risk it!
