Also, not specifically about this, but I was talking to a coworker who grew up in Communist Eastern Europe. (He moved here for college and decided to stay.) He said that of all the countries in the world, he thinks the US has the best chance of figuring things out and turning itself around, but we need more people in power to wake up and do that figuring out.

I'm trying to remain optimistic. I hate to think that the 2nd amendment was fundamentally flawed but it wouldn't be the first instance.

It's not that the 2nd Amendment is fundamentally flawed. It's that it is vague, severely outdated, abused and inconsistently applied.
