Should a wall be built between the US and Mexico?

(This is for a school project I am helping with, you can explain your answer if you want but a simple yes or no answer would be very helpful!)


The Senate is working on a proposal to build a double set of steel walls with floodlights and surveillance cameras along one-third of the U.S.-Mexican border to stop illegal immigration.

President Bush toured US states to rally support for his strategy to control immigration. He wants tighter security along the Mexican frontier.
He said his government planned to erect wire fences in the urban areas where there was no physical division between the two countries.
Mr Bush added that in the rural areas, barriers preventing the free flow of vehicles from Mexico into the US were to go up.
He promised the use of unmanned flying drones to help patrol the porous US-Mexican frontier.
"Border security must adapt to the nation's changing needs," Mr Bush said.

they were talking about this on carlos mencia last night...
he said something about there should be more security on the canadian border, not the mexican border... the hijackers from 9/11 came into the country through the canadian border.
(he also said if you kick out all the illeagles, who are you going to get ot build it, but i dont think that will help your grade much)

personally, i dont think it's a great idea... people who move here form mexico alot of times are trying to get a better life for themselved/their families, so who are we to say they can't?

I do not think a wall should be built between the US and Mexico, or any countries for that matter.

You ever see that episode of South Park where they enlist the local Chinese guy to build a wall and keep out the Hun? For some reason this makes me think of that.

Nobody is saying they can't. They are just asking them to do it legally. And what about those from other countries besides Mexico and Canda who wish to enter illegally? Should we let all of them in as well and we'll just pay extra taxes to pick up the slack? And speaking for someone who is legally trying to enter the US, it is increasingly frustrating that should you enter illegally and not get caught, and not have to pay taxes, you will eventually be granted citizenship simply because the government would rather give up than have to actually do anything about it. While we're at it, why don't we all just pay for all of their housing, food, clothing and medical expenses as well? Oh wait...

I know this may not be a popular opinion for this board, but what's the point of immigration laws when the government deports illegal immigrants one day and then grants amnesty the next? I don't think there should be snipers murdering those who try to cross, but I do think a wall is a feasible idea.

A wall? No. Tighter security? Yes. When we drove into Mexico and out, it was incredibly easy. I mean obviously my family doesnt look Mexican but they didnt even ask for passports or identification. How is THAT legal?

I saw in Weekly World News yesterday that the GOP is going to resurrect Reagan to run in '08. If they build a wall, it's a big plot so he can give the "Tear down that wall" speech again.

But seriously -- no. Do you realize how long this border is in Texas alone? It would never work.
