Hats off to one of the most unusual leading ladies the film world has ever known.
Best thread title in a while. Love Sissy Spaceck, not sure why she doesn't work that much. I recently rewatched THE HELP and had forgotten how fantastic she is in a very small role. She should have played Violet Weston in the AUGUST: OC film.
She and Whoopi are fantastic in The Long Walk Home.
Loved her in Carrie.
I actually saw her in person when her memoir came out a couple of years ago. She talked a bit about her career. It was a planned interview for an audience, not me stopping her on the street to ask her stuff. She said that her main home is in West Virginia and not NY or LA like most actors. I sort of gathered that she prefers to have a quiet and more laid back life.

She really can do it all. These are some of her "must see" movies.
Crimes Of The Heart
In The Bedroom
The Grass Harp
The Long Walk Home
Nice with the title.
Count me in as a lover of the thread title as well a Spacek fan...loved her in almost everything she's ever done. Her performance in 3 women is one of her best. Badlands, Coal Miners Daughter, Crimes of the Heart...all winning performances. She's definitely a fave of mine.

One of our greatest actresses, still terribly underrated.
Although it's a small role, her performance in THE STRAIGHT STORY is truly fantastic.
I also loved her in The Straight Story. One of my favorite David Lynch films that isn't on Blu Ray

I know! What's up with that?!
She was nominated for an Oscar for that though, wasn't she?
Has she ever done any stage work? I'd love to see her.
What classic stage roles might she take on? Amanda Wingfield? Mary Tyrone?
I'd love to see her in VIRGINIA WOOLF.
Jordan, she wasn't nominated for "The Straight Story".
I would LOVE to see her on stage! One of my faves as well.
Add me to the list of those who would love to see her on stage.
She has a remarkable body of work. I can't pick a favorite, but another film I loved her in (which hasn't already been mentioned) was 'Violets Are Blue'. Nothing groundbreaking, I just loved her in the role.
Addy ~ Spacek's husband, Jack Fisk directed VIOLETS ARE BLUE. Kevin Kline and Bonnie Bedelia were her co-stars. Nice film.
I've loved her work for years - COAL MINER'S DAUGHTER, CARRIE, and CRIMES are my personal faves - but I got such a kick out of her and Christopher Walken as the fallout shelter parents in BLAST FROM THE PAST. The premise and their performances are the best part of the film.
The first thing I ever saw Ms. Spacek in was "CARRIE", not only discovered her, but also the amazing Piper Laurie. The film made me an instant fan of hers. I have never seen her give a bad performance. My favorite film of hers is "Three Women", she and Shelley Duvall really try to outdo each other. Second favorite has to be "Coal Miner's Daughter", even though I was very pissed that she beat Mary Tyler Moore in "Ordinary People". She's one of the very best actresses we have in America.

I second 3 Women, an extraordinary Robert Altman film that also stars the magnificent Janice Rule.
Why didn't Ryan Murphy think of a part for "AHS"?...
Why isn't Sissy getting more roles these days? Helen Mirren and Meryl Streep aren't the only actresses over 60.
There's an HBO movie from the early 90's called A Private Matter that stars Ms. Spacek as the real life Romper Room host who, in the 60's, was taking thalidomide during her 5th pregnancy and decided to get an abortion. It became a public and ugly. She's absolutely sensational in it. And Aidan Quinn as her husband is always delightful to look at.
"Who's been asayin' that?"
She won the Oscar over Mary Tyler Moore in one of those years where I wish there was a tie!!!
I recently ordered the DVD of "'Night Mother". I really enjoyed her in that too!
