Here is a really good one I just remembered.

On "Boy Meets World," you have Morgan in the first few seasons as this obnoxious, but cute little girl. In either the 3rd or 4th season, I think she got sent to her room and you didn't see her again at all for a long time. I think the family picture on the fireplace, they covered her up during that time. But, later on in the series, I don't remember specifically, but Morgan finally comes out of her room and she is older, and a different actress. I think they did make a joke about being in her room for so long.

They did. And then they had an incredibly growing baby at the end of the series when the Matthews had a fourth kid.

You,re right Marianne, Chrissy did become dumber as time went on. I guess they felt this was funnier. Also, the powers behind her were demanding more money for Suzanne than ABC was willing to pay and possibly other reasons.

The Boy Meets World joke was "That was the longest time out I've ever had." Also, on Fresh Prince Of Bel Air, a new actress was brought in mid way to play Aunt Vivian. At the start of that season, the joke was: "Ever since you had the new baby, you've looked different"

I remember the little sister on "Family Matters" disappearing after the first or second season. The actress playing her once said in an interview that she went up to her room and never came out.

Quentin, the son of Grace on "Grace Under Fire" was played by two different actors. I think it was between the third and fourth seasons that they switched. At the end of one season, he was still a 9-year-old, then at the start of the next season, a teenager.

And let's not forget Becky on Roseanne!

Shirley did have a Brooklyn accent in the beginning.

On Two and a Half Men they make Jake dumber and dumber. I don't think he started out this dumb.

"Three's Company-Chrissy became dumber as the seasons went on, and finally was written off in the 5th season."

She was written off because she was demanding more money. You had to feel sorry for her in the last season because she was given about 30 seconds of screen time. She was always placed on a different soundstage and her lines consisted of calling Jack and Janet. It really was sad what they did to her.

And the queen of money demanders was Valerie Harper on "Valerie". But Sandy Duncan came to the rescue and it was retooled as "The Hogan Family"

The steady exaggeration of any character's personality quirk is becoming more and more common with long-running series. See Friends. They were all compulsively-something by the end.

I have to say, Andy Keaton is far and away my favorite "increadibly growing baby." Especially when big brother Alex starts teaching him about how to be a good little republican.

I'm watching Frasier right now, and I seem to remember that Daphne started out and being really kooky, but got steadily more normal as the series went on.

Jean Stapleton as Edith on All In The Family - she didn't have that high shrill voice for at least half the first season. Until then, she used her own voice.

Brian had sex, with a really dumb girl, now he's taking his friend Stewie, to get some ice cream, in his car.

Yes, that's a perfect example. In the first part of the series, she was working class housewife (almost like Alice on Honeymooners). She would backtalk and was a bit sarcastic. As the show continued, she became shrill and dingy.

Yeah, I remember that too. She was psychic at one point, wasn't she?

In the Golden Girls the layout of the house changed from the pilot episode to the next. Initially Blanche's bedroom was down the opposite hallway which we now know as the location of the lanai and the lanai was through the back screen doors which were rarely ever used again. They also had a gay cook named Coco who disappeared after the pilot.

Oh yeah! I forgot about Cook!
Wasn't the house from the pilot episode of THE NANNY different from the house that we all came to know?

Yes, The Nanny mansion changed too. The stairs switched to the oposite side of the living romm. And a pantry located between the kitchen and the dinning room disappeared. Updated On: 5/22/08 at 12:26 AM

Blake was evil in the beginning of "Dynasty." They needed to tone him down for the good guy/bad guy thing with Alexis.

Samantha on "Sex in the City" changed very much. I can't remember what season it took place, but I notice it when I watch the old episodes.

Helena on "the L Word."

Dorothy's hatred for Stan on The Golden Girls changed from one episode to the enxt. When her daughter Kate was getting married, Dorothy was a mean, nervous wreck about seeing Stanley again. After that episode, every time Stan would come over, she'd be fine and make him the butt of all the jokes.

Jane on "Melrose Place."

Well, Miranda was played quite differently during Season 1 of SEX & THE CITY. I don't know how to explain it, but Cynthia Nixon's portrayal was bitchy but not really as well-rounded as what we ended up seeing towards the last couple episodes of the first season. I feel Samantha was more or less the same though. Carrie was less fabulous at the beginning, unfortunately by the end of the show she had gotten annoying. Anyone else remember that device where all the characters spoke to the camera mimicking Carrie interviewing people for her column? It stopped in Season 2, I believe.
If we're talking all shows and not just sitcoms, Alex Karev on GREY'S ANATOMY was entirely different in the first season (or maybe the first couple of episodes).
Also, the character of Sarah from BROTHERS & SISTERS was a bit more restrained, when watching the Season 1 DVD, you can tell when the character became the Sarah Walker we all came to love.

Alex wasn't even filmed in the original pilot of Grey's Anatomy. He was added after they shot it so all the scenes with him were reshoots.

You're right, I forgot about that. They added Alex only after they realized they wanted to change the way Dr. Burke was originally conceived.
