A small plane just crashed into a building in maybe the east 70s.

Well, I suppose there's a myriad of reasons it could have happened.
All we get in the office is that dreaded Fox news, although they're now reporting it COULD have been a helicopter.

Well, given the damage in this building (that looks like an apartment building), it's possible there are more casualties than just the pilot.
It's on east 72nd in Yorkville, right by where I used to live.

You can see the smoke from Astoria.
I would imagine it's a helicopter--and there is a lot of fog today.

It does seem FAR more likely that a helicopter would get into the area as the traffic copters would be out on the FDR right now.

Posted: 10/11/06 at 3:01pmI just heard to whole thing happen, and now it sounds like a war zone up here. I can see the whole thing from my balcony...it was pretty terrifying. I live on the UES frighteningly close. Thank God it seems to have been an accident.

CBS is reporting it was an accident. They have a resident of the building across the street on the phone. It was either a small plane or a helicopter that crashed? into the the 20th or so floor.
There was a small helicopter doing a small photo tour around that area, so that could be it.
The White House has been notified.
