An unconfirmed report says the plane is registered to New York Yankees pitcher, Corey Lidle.
No word if that is who was in the plane.

CNN< has now ogtten a second source (the second apparently from someone associated Air Traffic Control).

Joe Torre has confirmed it was Lidle's Plane.


and vml, Lidle had since the elimination of the Yankee's spoken out in support of Torre and his own want to stay with the team (since he had just joined the team around the time of the Trade deadline)

the FBI has apparently said they believe Lidle to be the Pilot and CNN is reporting first responders found his Passport in the street.


EDIT

CNN is also reporting he was alone on the plane.

They are now saying that Lidle's passport was found on the street and that he was most likely alone in the plane.

why would he need a passport? they also found suitcases (earlier atleast)

edit-channel 7 just said that there were 2 people in plane. any concrete info?

a witness on Fox News just said one of the dead people was on the ground and struck by falling debris from the plane and the building.

They thought his flight instructor was with him but they are saying that he wasn't. He supposedly lives in Calif.? It's off season so he may have been going to his home on the West Coast with plans to leave the country.

wow this is so confusing. some stations say he was alone, other dont. some say no one on ground injured and now a dead on the floor. this is just horrible. prayers with everyone involved

theres already a note on it at wikipedia. its disturbing that people are on there just waiting to add peoples death dates

A lot of people fly with their passports. In fact, I almost always bring mine with me even for domestic flights (and I have a driver's license).

IN regards to Wikipedia, yes they had Steve Irwins death listed within minutes of the story breaking.

Just woke up from a post-class nap to a voicemail from my mom beggging me to call her back, asking if I was near 72nd street. Came online... and saw all this.

So terrible. My thoughts are with everyone and their families..
