re: So You Think You Can Dance

I'm not gonna lie, Alison, while I think she's talented and shouldn't have gone just yet, never did anything for me. I never felt her passion when she was dancing, never felt like she gave it that extra oomph beyond execution of technique. I have a Keri Russell theory aboutr her - much of her dancing for me is about her hair and her use of it (that came out weird, never mind, lol).

I have to say, Donyelle is still my fave girl. I am always excited to see her dance because she's a performer and really embodies her dancing, body and soul. I'm rooting for her til the end, baby!
If I show you the darkness I hold inside, will you bring me to light?

re: So You Think You Can Dance

I like Donyelle too, a lot. But I think maybe she benefited from having been partnered with Benji for those many weeks. I read somewhere that early on the critics thought that he was benefiting from being with her, which surprised me, as I thought he was talented and a great performer from the get-go. Although, I didn't realize how good a technician until the past couple of weeks.

My point is that had Natalie or Allison been partnered with Benji along the way, and Donyelle had not had that advantage, we might have seen some very different performances. And Benji is the kind of performer that can bring out the best in a partner. I think Allison's personality could have really emerged with him.

I am not a big fan of Natalie, but I think Dan had it correct when he said he felt sorry for her, because she had to do the heavy lifting with her partners. And while she was partnered with Benji that one week, they were saddled with the hip-hop. Donyelle excels at hip-hop, and her confidence did boost Benji that week during their hip-hop routine.

I'm probably not making myself clear. re: So You Think You Can Dance

Put another way, I think Benji is a great dancer. I think Donyelle is a very good dancer. I think Benji can bring out the best in his partner. I'm not sure Donyelle can do that (except in hip-hop). Or at least I didn't see it when she was partnered with Dmitri and Travis.

Whereas I think Alison and Natalie did their best at elevating their partners (Ivan and Musa). I thought the top 4 gals were all really wonderful. Just stunned at who got booted, as I think the judges were too.

Heidi has grown on me. Initially I thought she was only about shimmy shimmy shake shake. But her routine with Travis, and seeing her fabulous partnering skills with Benji, has really impressed me. She's another one that I think can elevate a partner.

re: So You Think You Can Dance

Yeah... Still missing Allison. ive begun to realize that one of my picks for the top 4 was just kicked off, so i must come to terms with the fact that someone else has to fill that spot...

i don't like Heidi. shes funny looking and reminds me of a super hyperactive Kristen Cheno, whom i don't care for. shes so bouncy. the lyrical that she and travis did, which although i loved (mostly because travis was in it lol) she didn't do much of anything. travis did all the dancing. and yet she was commended for her performance..

but Natalie, although i scoffed at her personality earlier in the show, has now become more reserved and serious, in a good way. she was always one of the most talented if not the most talented girl on the show, but now i think she might be going far. she's starting to grow on me.

i miss Allison. re: So You Think You Can Dance

re: So You Think You Can Dance

While I thought Allison had her moments, she just left me cold. She had little or no personality, when she danced. I was never really entertained by her, even if I could say "she did that well", after each dance. But then, everybody is pretty good, so there has to be more than just how well they did the steps. Heidi always makes me smile, when she's dancing.

re: So You Think You Can Dance

I think Allison was one of the better technicians (sp?) out of the girls. I agree with Nigel that she had that dacner's smile or whatever he called it. She kind of just had the same emotion. It was a smile or something else, that was smiley. She didn't really light up the stage for me either.
I've always not really liked Heidi. Like I wasn't really attracted to her dancing too much. Her dancing is good, but I never really was in awe of it. She's starting to grow on me.

re: So You Think You Can Dance

At first I was rooting for Donyelle to be in the final four but now I feel her time has come and gone. She hasn't impressed me in the past few weeks but Heidi has grown on me. Frankly I've never cared for Natalie, her personality always outshown her ability, not in a good way.

Any one else glad it is Wednesday?!?

I got through a rather poor day yesterday, thinking that, when I got home from rehearsal, I could make a martini and watch SYTYCD. Alas, I had to settle for the martini.

If Ivan outlasts Travis, then he is truly the next Jamile. This is lunacy. First Bush gets reelected, now this. America is stupid, y'all.

While I think Allison and Natalie are both wonderful dancers, I also found them to be forgettable. Every week, I was like, "Who? Oh yeah...I forgot she was in this." I also had a tough time telling them apart, especially on the last episode when they were getting cut. Same look, same hair style, same hair color, same size. It was really weird. Who got cut? The one in the pink top.

If a girl wins, it better be Heidi

re: So You Think You Can Dance

Travis + Benji = love. re: So You Think You Can Dance

Ivan & Natalie: I didn't like their Jive too much. I agree w/ Nigel, their chemistry wasn't really there. U liked their contemporary routine. I mean it was good, but by no means amazing. I liked it more than the judges did, I guess.

Travis & Heidi: Really good this week! But during the Smooth Waltz, I think that Heidi could've put a bit more emotion than her usual happy smiley thing. The Pop dance was very cool. It had a very earthy feel to it.

Benji & Donyelle: Love them. Since like the beginning. Still love them. Their Broadway routine wqas good. I liked the Hip-Hop routine more. I def. think Benji should join that booty club that Mia & DOnyelle was talk about =P

To go: Ivan & Natalie, hopefully.
Donyelle may have a chance to be in the bottom 2 becasue everybody like doesnt like her anymore re: So You Think You Can Dance

ETA: All of the solos were really good. I really liked Ivan's. He's finally catching up w/ the group! I liked Donyelle's because it was different from her usual hip-hop. I always love Travis & Benji's solos. Travis' shirt = priceless. I heard benji was supposed ot be wearing a flashy belt (like the sign his dad had last week that was like Yay for Benji & Heidi! or something) that was like vote for Benji. But I guess not. Wow, I'll stop because this post is getting be super long!

re: So You Think You Can Dance

My notes from tonight (some random thoughts thrown in for good measure):

Natalie and Ivan ... color me surprised at how good the jive was ... the triple steps were off, yes, but I am surprised at the judges' comments ... Natalie's solo ... same moves different music ... I would like to see them dance solo in a style other than their own ... Ivan is good at what he does, but I would love to see, with as much as he has improved through the show, to see him dance a solo out of his style ... hmmm, the contemporary left me cold ... choreography? chemistry? I am not sure ... I agree, to some degree, with Mia's comments about Natalie, but I am surprised that she thinks Travis has the "charisma" dancers wish they had ...

Donyelle and Benji ... (I was hoping for a Heidi/Benji pairing again) ... while better than previous outings, Tyce's choreography is still weak ... Benji was, pardon the expression, rather nelly in this routine; his costume, which emphasized how slight he is, didn't help ... that second routine was hip HOT! ... In Benji's solo, he again came across rather nelly ... I had not really seen that as much before ... go Donyelle for dancing solo out of the box ...

Travis ... again, the solo, though wonderful technically, didn't move me ... Heidi and Travis ... Heidi was lovely in the smooth waltz, beautiful lines ... Heidi has legs for days! As nice as she seems to be, she can be very sexy when she dances ... so, why was that "pop" and not contemporary?!? Have you noticed that every choreographer who created a "pop" routine described the style differently? I agree with Nigel that it was the best routine of the night, but I am not sure America will agree. They may have found it too odd.

I think Natalie and Ivan will be the two to go, though you never know how America will vote.

re: So You Think You Can Dance

In the area of Ivan's performance tonight:

I have loved Ivan from the beginning. i never picked him to win and never thought he would, but i like to see people with no verstile dance background come out and show up the ones that should be invinceable. I completely disagreed with Heidi being the most improved. that title should most def. go to Ivan. 7 years of hip hop... thats it... nothing else... Heidi has years of experience in jazz and lyrical. coming from nothing to a lot of something is more substantial.

and one more thing. i could tell for sure that Ivan was still shaken up by the fact that Allison wasn't there. same with natalie. it was weird - allison's trademarked partner coupled with the girl that beat her out - and shouldn't have. both their energy levels were waaay down. it made me sad to watch them, es. ivan.. because i knew he was probably hurting inside.

on another note:

i still don't like Heidi. her solo was boring tonite. actually a lot of the solos were boring tonite. oh well. next week is the finals. step it up.

FINALLY someone came out and said that Natalie is fake. i've been saying that since day one. thank you.

i think its donyelle and ivan going home. unfortunately. i want donyelle to stay, ut she hasn't wowed me in the past couple shows... i love ivan to death. the only reason i don't want him to win is he would be so out of place in Celine Dion's contemporary setting... and you could tell tonite that Mia Michaels doesn't want him in her show... he can be in my show anyday :)

if travis wasn't gay and going out with a rather cute guy already (he's his #1 on myspace lol) he'd be marrying me. that boy can do no wrong. he'd be perfect in Celine's show... and Mia loves him.

re: So You Think You Can Dance

I felt the judges were far too kind to Travis, after the waltz. I didn't think he was all that good. Heidi was great in it. Their second routine, was choreographed to all of Travis' strengths as a dancer; and, he deserved even more praise than he got, imo. But, Heidi, for me, was the best dancer of the night. She did what Travis did; but, he could never do what she did in her solo. She is far more diverse, imo. Without question, Heidi, Travis and Benji should be in the finals.

re: So You Think You Can Dance

Another thing I've noticed about Natalie, is that whe she dances with a partner she seems to be focused on only making herself look good. Yeah...I hope she gets voted off and then Donyelle.
