re: So You Think You Can Dance

My thoughts from tonight:

I LOVE Mia Michaels's choreography, including tonight's opening number, but, tonight, I did not love Mia Michaels. She started off well, telling Natalie that she needs to trust herself and not try so hard. However, with her comments to Heidi she went into brutal territory and remained there. I realize that she is only being honest, but that honesty can be off-putting for the viewing audience unaccustomed to the dance world. It is very obvious who Mia wants in her show--Travis--and I think she was using her voice as the choreographer of the show in which the winner will appear to influence the outcome.

Tonight, Travis reminded me why I don't like him. From the first show, I have found him rather cocky. That was never more apparent then tonight.

I am not surprised at who was dismissed, though I think it could have gone either way between Natalie and Donyelle.

I think Benji will win, but I hope Heidi gives him a run for his money.

re: So You Think You Can Dance

I don't think Mia Michaels understands the definition of versatility. And frankly, Travis doesn't need to win, as Ms. Michaels offered him a job for life.

Cat said that about Heidi too though (that she didn't necessarily get the most votes).

I didn't hear it then, just when Travis was announced. It was right that she should say it for both, though. It was tough to hear.

i love how modest and respectful Ivan and Natalie were tonite in regards to leaving. i mentioned to my friend at the end when they were standing with Cat that if someone turned to that channel just then, and didn't know what they were watching or what night it was and stuff, they woulda thought that they had won something and the other four had lost. they both looked so happy and the other four looks extremely miserable. i thought that was funny, but at the same time very, well, classy i guess. kinda like how allison left.

Yes, you're right about them. By the way, I hated Mia Michaels' opening routine. My least favorite of the season. And, I do normally like her stuff, well enough, although contemporary just isn't my thing.

Wade's routine (last week?) with the scary costumes and make-up was the best routine I thought.

re: So You Think You Can Dance

Yeah Ivan and Natlaie were class acts (not that others this season have been bitchy when they left). It was good see. They both looked like they sort of expected it also.
when ducks grow thumbs then maybe my opinion will change.

re: So You Think You Can Dance

I agree that the opening wasn't the best. I'm sad to see Natalie go, even though I expected her to be eliminated. Ivan needed to go, so all the best to him. I was actually very surprised to see Benji in the bottom two last night, because I thought it would be between Travis and Ivan. However, I'm extremely proud that Travis had the most votes out of all the guys. He still is my favorite male dancer on the show, and if you think he's cocky just take a look back at Dmitry. I'm rooting for him and Heidi now.

re: So You Think You Can Dance

ponine, Travis did not necessarily have the highest vote total of the boys (see previous posts in this thread).

I don't think Dmitry was cocky, at least not in the same way as Travis. Compare the way Travis responds to positive comments from the judges (like last night's love fest with Mia) and almost any other dancer on the show. Most others simply say, "Thank you." The only thing Dmitry was cocky about was his body, and he needed to be to stay alive on the show.

re: So You Think You Can Dance

i just think it was stupid to leave it down to ivan and benji because the audience clearly screams his name EVERY show and hes clearly a favorite and then theres ivan who got terrible comments the night before. hmm, what a shocker that ivan went home. but yea, i guess they cant reveal who got the most votes since next week is the finale and chances are that the ppl with the most votes wont change.

re: So You Think You Can Dance

I think the producers/director were trying to inject some suspense into the proceedings. Knowing full well that Benji was not going to get the boot, I am sure many people, missing Cat's comment about the votes, gasped, thinking that Benji was actually in the bottom two.

re: So You Think You Can Dance

That's what I heard. That would mean we get to see Benji and Heidi again ... here's hoping they draw Western Swing!

yes! go benji and heidi!!! they were meant to be together!!!!!

re: So You Think You Can Dance

Last season, they partnered first with the opposite sex, then with the same sex, in addition to solos. I wish they could choose one male and one female to win, however. The final four are exactly who I wanted from the beginning. If Ivan had made it to the final four, I probably would have given up the show altogether.

re: So You Think You Can Dance

sweet, thanks! and i liked ivan but mainly because he was so good at what he did and not what he had to do. i think the top 4 all deserve to be in the top 4 and were the right picks!

re: So You Think You Can Dance

no i think Natalie should have stayed, i think she was an amazing dancer, i loved how she said opa!!! after she found out she was leaving, i thought that Natalie and Allison should have been the top two girls, but i'm happy with the top two boys, i think travis is the best boy but benji ia amazing too, Natalie had the personality and she was very classy and truly liked everyone on the show, you could tell by how she cried whem all her firends and others got kicked off and she was so nice about everything. i really liked her a lot i reall wanted her to stay but i think that she will be fine, she is an amazing dancer. i liked Mia's routine last night a lot, i thought it was really cool, i did think that she was to harsh on hedi, i mean they need to tell the truth to them now but for this show i think they shouldn't attack them like that, i do love Mia but i think she was a little to harsh last night, i wanted other people in the top 4 but with these ones i think i would like travis and donylle to be the last two. i can't wait to see what happens but i'm sad that Natalie was kicked off.

I am glad I am not the only one who liked Mia's choreography last night!

re: So You Think You Can Dance

The interchange between the judges last night was interesting. Mia was harsh (and in a strange way refreshing), but uneven I thought. Nigel was correct in emphasizing the "favorite" dancer, not best. If Mia was going to criticize for lack of technical ability, OK - fair game, but then she should have expressed shock at Ivan making the final 6; instead she gushed. It's not that I disagree with her. I thought some of her comments were spot on. But she should have been blunt across the board.

Regarding Benji and Travis, I am happy that they are the 2 remaining guys. One is a technician, the other a performer. Preference at this point is a matter of taste. It's like comparing Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly. I marvel at the two of them, but for different reasons. One of them will probably win, and either one deserves it, imo.

Regarding the gals, that's a tough one for me. I would have thought Allison and Nat would have been in the final 2, with Heidi a dark horse. Donyelle has got spunk, personality, and great ability. But seeing her in the past few weeks has been disappointing for me, as Mia remarked. I thought the Le Jazz Hot number she did on Wednesday was so unremarkable. Oh well. I tend to gravitate to dancers who have quick feet.

re: So You Think You Can Dance

"Opa!" I thought that was the best farewell comment made in both seasons.

Yay! Final Four, everyone! Go Heidi and Benji... I hope they're in the final two.

Don't get me wrong, I like Travis, but he reminds me of Nick from last season, and it would be a bummer if practically the exact same person won two years in a row.

Is next week the finale? That's what I think Cat said. I think I'm wrong though.

ETA: Just kidding. The finale is on August 17. When I'm on vacation! Argh, why me?!

re: So You Think You Can Dance

I'm hoping Benji takes it home. I also think that's it more likely for a guy to win in a competition like this.
