re: 'So You Think You Can Dance' is Back!!

I agree with Tom - Jessi was robbed. Had she been able to perform with Pasha this week, she would have been safe. Her solo was not fabulous, but it was not the worst either. So for them to just let her go without any explanation is very disappointing. I suspect that the producers saw her as a liability and wanted to get rid of her. Also, the dancing portion of the show is taped on Mondays (so the performances can be filmed from various camera angles and then edited). She was taken to the hospital on Monday. So unless she was in hospital for 3 full days, they could have taped her performance with Pasha another day and just rushed it through editing to be ready to air on Wednesday.

I don't think she should have won the whole competition, but I do think she deserved to go on for 1 more week to let the audience vote decide her fate.

Between Jessi being sent home and Cedric still hanging around, I'm really not interested in this show any more. It's becoming a joke, where good dancers are passed over for mediocre ones in the interest of having a top 10 that the tweens will want to see on tour this fall.

"I think Danny lacks a personality when he dances. I'm not surprised he was in the bottom three. I would have sent him home over Jesus, who is a more enjoyable dancer to watch."

As I said above, I was sad to see Jesus go. But I enjoy to watch dancers who point their feet. There's really no competition for me when it comes to Danny. Hoowwwever, I can see America sending him home because, as people on this thread are already starting to say, he's "arrogant". And America would rather a complete sweetheart win than someone who knew they would win all along....whatever the outcome, it's thrilling to see freaking Danny Tidwell on national television twice a week no matter how snobbish he seems re: 'So You Think You Can Dance' is Back!!

re: 'So You Think You Can Dance' is Back!!

After a week off, let's get right to it:

Lacey & Kameron (the hustle): “One thing America doesn’t know about me,” said Kameron,” is that, despite my protestations, I am a big ‘mo.” Okay, with that said, this is a terrific partnership, with both working extremely hard. Kameron really partnered Lacey well, but he seemed a bit stiff at times. Lacey, thus far, has been able to do anything that she has been asked. Very well done on her part.

Shauna & Cedric (mambo): Ugh. I grimaced during this whole number, feeling liked Cedric was holding Shauna back. Boy did he dance his heart out, but that looked painful for her, fighting for every movement. Mary was right: Cedric fought for it in this number and has grown. However, it was not enough for him to stay. Interestingly, Nigel kept his criticism to a minimum. Surely he knows that his thrashing in the last round helped keep Cedric on the show.

Anya & Danny (contemporary): A secret obsession with sunglasses?!? This did not endear Danny to me. I finally figured out what it is I don’t like about Danny. There is no question that he is a superior technician. However, when I watch what I feel are his passionless performances, I sense that Danny feels this competition is beneath him. (I truly typed that before Adam Shankman made his comment about Danny thinking he has already won the competition.) Anya, on the other hand, with the lesser technique gave a very impassioned performance.

Sara & Pasha (West Coast swing): I know very little about this style of dance, but this seemed an odd choice of music. However, that was a great number! What a joy to see Sara smiling throughout the entire number, enjoying what she was doing despite being out of her element. Kudos to her. It certainly helped that they had the master showman, Benji, choreographing and coaching them this week. This was an entertaining crowd pleaser.

Sabra & Dominic (hip hop): Wow. Who knew hip hop could be so sensual?!? And it told a story! Great job Shane Sparks. Dominic, who I assumed would dance a hip hop routine well, really impressed me with his performance and emotion. Sabra is still one of my favorites.

Jaimie and Hok (waltz): Jaimie, just shut up and dance. Boy, does her personality bug me. Anyway ... this number underwhelmed me. I can’t pinpoint anything in particular. She is a beautiful dancer; he did a good job completely outside his element. But neither of them wowed me with their performance level.

Lauren & Neil (jazz): It was with furrowed brow I watched this number. It was very odd, yet well performed, though not one of my favorites of the evening. Like Adam, this is the first time I liked Neil because he was not relying on his tricks.

So, the top performances tonight, for me, were Sara and Pasha and Sabra and Dominic. The worst, for me, were Shauna and Cedric (though not her fault) and Jaimie and Hok. The other couples, Lacey and Kameron, Anya and Danny, and Lauren and Neil, fell somewhere in the middle for me.

re: 'So You Think You Can Dance' is Back!!

Lacey and Kameron were good. I do feel (as a non-Lacey fan) that she has been given what I call the "Benji Blessing," which is easy styles (for her) week after week and a competent partner. Even though I won't be happy about it, it will be extremely hard to find them in the bottom three, quite like Benji avoided it. Just my opinion.

Poor Shauna. That's all I have to say. That number was horrible. Straight up. I hope to see them in the bottom three, if only to see Cedric finally go home and Shauna's amazing solo.

Anya & Danny's number, although beautiful, didn't wow me like others have. Tyce's choreography was a bit awkward at times as well, which is always a possibility with him. I think Anya's great, though. This was actually the first week where I agreed that Danny seems to act like he is above all this. I think I've been trying to convince myself otherwise, but it's kinda true. I don't think this number was enough to set them apart or be remembered by, and might put them in danger.

Sara and Pasha's dance oozed excitement and passion. They loved it and I loved watching it. I can just imagine the hilarious jokes and crazy tangents that went down in Benji's dance studio. Wow, what I would give to see the entire tape of backstage footage...

Although I'm not a fan of that type of hip hop dance, you can't help but admire and respect what they did. It was sharp and sensual, and executed flawlessly. They made it look effortless.

The waltz was a bit awkward. Although I can't really pinpoint what it was. I don't necessarily agree that it was Hok's fault, like the judges said, but I just don't know. Another wow-less number, I guess. Although I was in love with Jaimie's costume.

On the jazz number, what can I say... Neil continues to be my favorite, next to Sabra. I felt that he outperformed Lauren again with this number. Wade Robson is a genius, IMO. Not that he wasn't before. All us cool people who watched The Wade Robson Project know just what kind of magic he is capable of. His number's with SYTYCD have never ceased to entertain and wow me.

All in all, I thought it was a very impressive night, but --

- Shauna/Cedric
- Anya and Danny
- Jaimie and Hok

-- are my bottom three.

I also thought Mr. Shankman was oddly nice... I dunno. I think I expected him to be a bit more critical. Oh well, such is the way with these guest judges...

re: 'So You Think You Can Dance' is Back!!

ComaBaby, I have to disagree with you about Lacey. While there certainly is a dramatic appeal to having last year's champion on this year's show, she consistently out performs many of the other dancers, technically and as an entertainer. As for the styles they have danced, they draw those from a hat, so her blessings are as random as the next person's.

Fantab, that article was what finally formed by thoughts about Danny. The writer practically christens him as the second coming, giving me the impression that Danny is above it all.

I completely agree with you DBilly, about Lacey.

I haven't read that article about Danny, but as I believe I said in an earlier post, I would have let him go, last week. I agree with Nigel about the "x-factor". He doesn't have it. And, nobody is entertaining me half as much as Benji did, last year.

re: 'So You Think You Can Dance' is Back!!

Who missed Mia Michaels' contemporary choreography this week?
*raises hand*
Tyce is my least favorite choreog and that was my least favorite number from that standpoint...however I do agree that Danny has a superior attitude that he doesnt seem to want to change. It is his perogotive, and America will keep him in the bottom 3 until he goes home. He dances so beautifully, tho.

Sabra is my favorite, hands down...she's terrif.

Your assessment is right on, DBillyP.

re: 'So You Think You Can Dance' is Back!!

Ok, I just finished watching last night's episode and all I have to say was excluding 3 performances, it was HOT HOT HOT! Best episode this season in my opinion. And we once again confirmed the fact that Mary is insane.

Ok, Lacey and Kameron - Eh. I was really disappointed with them this week. They weren't bad, but I just felt that they weren't up to par, ESPECIALLY after watching the other performances.

Shauna and Cedric - Another EH performance. They were my least favorite couple.

Anya and Danny - I loved their performance. The choreography was just beautiful and their performance didn't seem to hinder them one bit.

Sara and Pasha - Ok, I'm already a fan of Benji so when I saw he choreographed this, I already knew I would love it. This was my favorite performance of the night (with Anya and Danny's performance in a CLOSE second). But seriously, the choreography was absolute brilliance.

Sabra and Dominic - I usually HATE hip-hop dancing. Breaking is interesting, but hip-hop for me is just like watching grass grow. BORING. HOWEVER, their performance was just intriguing and I loved it.

Jamie and Hok - The third eh performance of the night. Jamie running around Hok in the one part was just awkward and not natural at all. Bottom 3 for sure.

Lauren and Neil - Wade's choreography was just unique. It was SO good and they pulled of a GREAT preformance. Wade always comes up with some of the most interesting choreography, and Neil and Lauren both played into that very well. What a way to end the show.

Bottom 3 tonight will be, without a doubt, Lacey and Kameron (UNLESS there are honestly that many people who were willing to pick up the phone for her regardless of her decent performance, and this is coming from someone who LOVES Lacey), Shauna and Cedric, and Jamie and Hok. Cedric will be sent home, and I'm gonna say that Jamie will go home. Shauna's last solo was birlliant so I have no doubt that she'll save herself tonight, as will Lacey for sure.

re: 'So You Think You Can Dance' is Back!!

I haven't posted on this thread yet, but I watched the past several shows. All I can say is this-to me it doesn't matter whether or not Danny dances as if he already won the competition, or if he dances with arrogance- he SHOULD! I think he's in a class of his own here. Breathtaking!

re: 'So You Think You Can Dance' is Back!!

Jane2- I agree. Personally, I don't see where the arrogance comments are coming from. It's like the judges keep planting that assessment in our minds. I have never seen leaps like that. His hands and his toes are perfect! He is beautiful to watch. However, I don't think he has the performance factor of Pasha though. I do think he needs to work on that for this show but wow! Of course, I have to take this opportunity to comment on Hillary Duff. Once again, she gave a boring performance. Even my daughter said she's barely moving on stage and she holds the mike so close to her mouth that you can't see her sing. It's like, here I am in my cute sexy outfit with my new great body but she just didn't bring it. If you're going to dress sexy, then at least act sexy. She looked disinterested. I won't EVEN go there with her "dancing". Okay- I'm done. I still have to watch my tape as I missed most of the solos- can't wait to see! At least I saw that my favorite performers were not in the bottom.

re: 'So You Think You Can Dance' is Back!!

Cedrick and Shauna. The judges said they didn't base their decision on tonight's solo performance but on the overall performances throught the show. As soon as they said that, I knew Cedrick would be gone- especially since Danny and Hok were up there. They told Shauna that she didn't have the wow factor in her performance. Even tough Anya has weak solos, they credited that with the fact that she's a ballroom dancer. They told her she needed to work on her solos but her performance factor takes her over the top. They didn't say that much about Jamie. I did agree with the judges this week. Yes, shauna is technically great but I have always felt that something is missing. To me, Jamie will probably go soon due to her lack of wow factor. Hope this helps!

re: 'So You Think You Can Dance' is Back!!

i agreed with the judges this week, though i thought it would be anya to go, but shauna was the right pick. anya's solos really hold her back, but her performances are far and beyond shauna's. if someone could just choreograph her solo for her, i'm sure anya would be fantastic. and obviously cedric should have gone, he was no match for the other boys there, performance or solo. hok's was much better than his, and it was only really between the two of them.

this solo was the first time i ever liked danny! i truly thought he was incredible. he completely blew me away.

dbillyp, after seeing kameron during the hairspray montage (shirtless i might add!!), i feel like it's a bit more clear which team he bats for.

re: 'So You Think You Can Dance' is Back!!

supportive-I noticed the same thing about Hillary Duff. Actually, I didn't know a thing about her until tonight. First, she can't dance. Second, the makeup was awful, and you're right, she did look disinterested. I'm not one to talk, but she looked kind of old for that kind of number to me.

About Danny-the arrogance thing is such BS. He has the correct attitude and poise while he's dancing!

re: 'So You Think You Can Dance' is Back!!

Jane- I guess I am one to talk and Duff is a fun topic. Anyway, it's like the judges don't want Danny to win because they keep bringing up his personality- that shouldn't even be a factor in this type of contest. I'll say it again- WOW!
#171

re: 'So You Think You Can Dance' is Back!!

the judges are jealous, lol! I like the way Danny refuses to be affected by their "attitude" nonsense. I think he's confident and is sticking to what he's doing because he knows he's damn good. Contest shmontest, I'm sure he's got quite a career ahead of him.

re: 'So You Think You Can Dance' is Back!!

I am too pissed to even go back and review what I typed during the show. Shauna has been held back by her partner since week one, and I don't think we ever got a chance to see what she can really do.

Anyway, here's what I wrote:

Tonight’s opening number was a mixed bag for me. Those kids did exactly what Adam Shankman told them to: have fun! However, they were having fun dancing a mediocre number. Now, that takes nothing away from Adam Shankman who, at 42, amazed me with what he was doing while choreographing. Also, I saw “Hairspray” on Tuesday night, and congratulations to Mr. Shankman on a terrific film.

There, fortunately, were no surprises or me in tonight’s bottom three: Anya and Danny, Shauna and Cedric, and Jaimie and Hok.

Anya: This woman who studied international law (OMG!) is pure sex, but ballroom dancers’ solos are so limited. However, she has performed very well so far in the other styles.

Danny: That was really lovely, and I don’t just mean his body. (OMG!) I am not a Danny fan, but, tonight, he danced with more passion than I have seen from him.

Shauna: What a shame that she was in the bottom three yet again. She has never deserved to be there. However, I thought her expression, which was one of real joy, was in contrast to the music to which she was dancing.

Cedric: Regardless of what he did tonight, it is time for him to go.

Jaimie: She is a beautiful dancer. Did anyone else think her expression as she walked over to Cat said, “I am going home tonight”?

Hok: I think it is tough to judge between dancers like Hok and Cedric when seeing their solos alone. Hok, however, has performed consistently well.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, Cedric is going home tonight. (Please!) As for the girls, that’s a tougher choice. Shauna is safe for the simple reason that, as I said, she has never deserved to be in the bottom three. On solos alone, I would send Anya home. If personalities play a part, Jaimie is packing her bags tonight. I just typed that I think it is going to be Anya, but it could be Jaimie. I just don’t know.

Okay, once again ... COLOR ME (expletive deleted) STUNNED. Shauna, girl, you should be pissed. Another completely unfair decision. Unbelievable.

Well, at least they got it right with Cedric. He is a gracious young man, but he lasted a lot longer than he should have. I can’t help but think his dismissal played a role in Shauna, his partner, also being let go.

Thanks, supportivemom. I'm upset to hear Shauna was let go, she was amazing. Yes, lacking something performance-wise, but I think, given the right partner, she could've won. Now, I don't think a girl's gonna win this season...

Coma- Well, I really like Lacey and Sabra. I think they have done well with whatever dance has been given to them. Lacey;s triple turn into that beautiful leg extension was great! Also loved Sabra's break dancing poses. I don't know- I think a girl can win this year. I guess it's up to who is voting and young girls seem to go for the guys. This year, I would be happy with whoever wins. At this point- they are all outstanding. In the words of Mary Murphy- WOOOOO HOOOOOO!!!
