Posted: 10/21/06 at 8:08pmOh well. At least I'm in good company with Kringas and bta212 in enjoying how Audra interprets it.

Papa Can You Hear Me? (as sang by Charlotte Church)
You were meant for me (Jewel)
Tears In Heaven (Clapton)
Ain't No Way (as sang by Shoshana Bean)
Another Suitcase In Another Hall (I saw this performed by a recent touring cast, I can't remember the name of the woman who sang it. The two recording out there do very little for me though)
Beautiful Disaster (as sung by Rathy
)

Love Audra, but still have to agree with Rath...
Oh well, good to have opinions. I'm just referring to how badly written the song is. Lame chord structure, no inherent climax--changing keys and raising the volume, does not a climax make.

This song that my lovely neighbors have had on repeat outside my apartment for the last three hours ("que lastima" and "ti corazon" are the only lyics I've picked up) is about to make me lose my last trace of sanity, if that counts as crying.
eta: And yeah about Love Changes Everything. There's one song from Aspects of Love that I like, and that ain't it.

Posted: 10/21/06 at 8:24pmPretty much every song by Patty Griffin. I adore this woman, she is a phoneminal songwriter and singer. The emotion in her voice...wow...just wow. The thing that is amazing about her songs is that her songs have a chameleon-like quality to them. They bend to every situation and speak of something different every time you listen to them. Julie Miller's "I Still Cry" is the same way. The first time I heard it I thought of the aftermath of a relationship. Then I popped that cd in on September 11th and I was listening to the song and realized how the lyrics (written pre-2001) seem to speak of that day.

If I could just squeeze in between the sidebar conversation and respond to the thread topic:
John Prine's "Hello, In There" as sung by Miss Bette Midler has managed to get me to at least well up every time I've seen her perform it live. The recorded version in "Divine Madness" too. And speaking of the Divine One, the "One More for My Baby..." on Johnny Carson's last show was very moving.

Posted: 10/21/06 at 10:52pmThere aren't any songs that make me cry, but I feel emotional from Michael Cerveris singing "Midnight Radio" at the end of Hedwig. Also, Raul singing "Petrified" makes me come pretty close to tears, but it's from the sheer amazement of this man's talent more than the song itself.

This is going to sound really weird. She Will Be Loved by Maroon 5 always makes me cry, as does Your Song by Elton John. Actually, I think any song could make me cry. Not because of sadness, just because I think music is so powerful. The bridge of 'Louder Than Words" from Tick...Tick...BOOM! always makes me cry just because it has so much power.
But yeah, She Will Be Loved made me cry every time I heard it for three months straight. Still haven't figured out why.

Me and a Gun, 1000 Oceans - Tori Amos
Hm, quite a few of Tori's songs have made me cry, but not those two. I was never really a fan of "1000 Oceans," and "Me and a Gun" is more haunting to me than a real tear-jerker. "Mother" usually does it for me, as does "Winter." Both of them are songs that are probably universally relatable as far as parent/child relationships go, but for whatever reason, I've felt a special connection to those songs since first hearing them in seventh grade.

Was watching the Audra "Live at Lincoln Center" and she sang "I Won't Mind". I'd never heard it before...and by the end I was bawling like a baby.
So what did I do...downloaded the track from itunes.......and again I'm in tears.
Now I just have to play it enough to desensitize myself so I can sing along...
