I used to get up at Eighty-Eights and do the entirety of Getting Married Today. In each register. I'm surprised I never gay-bashed myself.

I just realized it was 1988. I heard "Fast Car" for the first time and was stunned. They also played that cheezy "Phantom" video all the time. Susie Essman and Joy Behar's standup was on a loop.

I believe I was, in fact, there during the I'M FLYING years.

I'll never forget the night my friends and I were there and in came Liza and Billy Stritch. Just to hang. I was actually speechless. We left as Liza left and some crone went up to her and said, 'I loved your mother.' Liza remained gracious, and when the crone was out of sight, my friend said, 'Well...I love YOU!' And Liza was so pleased.

I stood there like my tongue had been cut out. God...I hate myself.

I met Rosie O'Donnell there (post Star Search, and she was on VH-1 at that point). She came up to where I was sitting and spoke briefly with a friend of mine and me.

Although I stopped going to Eighty-Eights before they folded, I was sad whenever I walked down 10th street to see something else there. I had quite a lot of fun when I went there though.

I had stopped going regularly before they folded as well. But I did manage to get there on its last night. So sad.

PalJoey, oh I definitely remember that pipe bomb. What I was inferring was that Uncle Charlie's seemed to just fade away. I don't remember any announcement that it would be closing. One day I walked by and it was gone.
