Any other fans out there? I think this is one of the best "coming of age" movies ever made and it still makes me cry to this day when I watch it. All the actors give exceptional performances and the story and direction is spot on. It is going to be one of those lasting movies that will be around for a very long time.
i'm a fan! it's fun having it on dvd. rob reiner's commentary (although at times self-glorifying) is fun and informative. and the music video is a hoot!
LOVE wil wheaton ... and LOVE river! but watching the movie makes me sad every time river appears
What's really heartbreaking is the end where Chris (River's character) dissapears. It's a shame that he died so young. He would have went far with that talent.

I love that movie.
oh, when chris disappears ... i totally lose it.
I do too. The big "cry like I am hyperventalating" moment is when Chris tells about the teacher who took the money and blamed it on him. God, that gets me every single time.
LOVE this movie! I was in a TV Movie with Wil before Stand By Me (see my fan pics) and remember going to see it and feeling so proud of him! That scene when they find the kid creeped me out though, I was too little to be watching that.
Popular, those pics are too cute.
I love Stand By Me - such a classic! I was just talking with a friend of mine last week about Jerry O'Connell. Who knew that the little fat kid would grow up to become the handsome detective in Crossing Jordan?
popular: wil wheaton AND tim hutton! wow!
"Who knew that the little fat kid would grow up to become the handsome detective in Crossing Jordan?"
Jerry has worked constantly before and after Stand by Me. He was the most out of control little boy on the face of the earth. Loveable, but totally out of control. He's now the smoothest, most well adjusted young man you ever want to meet. You gotta hand it to his mother (one of my best friends). Jerry's about to make Rebecca Romijn Mrs. O'Connell this summer!
I love this movie! I hadn't watched it until last summer, and my boyfriend made me watch it, now it's like that one movie that we watch over and over again. It's too cute.
kiefer's part was so terrible! i haven't been able to see him in any other role without thinking of that nasty scuz he played in STAND BY ME!
Kiefer DEFINITELY a bad boy in that one!! He scared me so much!
Cturtle - I was 6, what the heck did I know of Tim Hutton? LOL Brenda Vacarro and Rosanna Arquette were also in that movie.. it was actually pretty good if I do say so myself!

I love this movie! It took me forever to actually see the whole thing. I'd always watch bits and pieces then i finally sat down and watched the whole thing. What a great movie
Keifer scared the bejesus (is that word still in use) out of me when I first saw this movie when I was younger. That and THE LOST BOYS.
POPULAR, i absolutely loved ORDINARY PEOPLE when it first came out. it had a HUGE impact on me. TIMOTHY was incredible in that movie. too bad he's not done anything as good since.

Aw, I used to love Timothy Hutton. He broke my heart in Ordinary People!
Re: Stand by Me. It was simply outstanding. All of the boys gave incredible performances (too bad Corey Feldman had to go and throw away all of that potential. He was great). But River? God. There are lots of young, talented actors. But that kind of specialness--that indefinable something an artist has or does not have--doesn't come around often. It goes beyond ability; beyond star quality. What a damn shame.

Yes. This is my favorite movie.
And so much better than THE BODY, on which it's based.
The special features on the DVD or sad - with them talking about River.

I actually never read The Body. Was it any good? I usually like King's books better than the movie versions. The exceptions? Well, Misery and Carrie, of course! Kathy Bates and the axe. Sissy Spacek being pelted with Maxi pads. Just doesn't get much better!)
Another River Phoenix movie I absolutely LOVE is Running on Empty. He received an Oscar nomination for it when he was a teenager. It's a great story, and everyone was excellent...River, Martha Plimpton. Judd Hirsch, Christine Lahti.

It's part of THE SEASONS, I think. Also containing THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION.
I liked the movie better. Of course I had seen the movie a hundred times and a few hundred more in the various languages the DVD comes with before reading the short story.
This film was a favorite of mine and my brother and our two best friends. We used to reenact many scenes from the film, i.e. play on the train tracks, camp out, fire my friend's BB guns. I was cast as Teddy (the Corey Feldman role) because I can be a little crazy sometimes.

Call my baby Lollipop
tell you why
his kiss is sweeter than an apple pie
and when he does his shaky rockin' dance
gee I haven't got a chance...
