Once when I was bartending a woman ordered the cheapest glass of white wine and proceeded to put like 4 or 5 packs of sugar into it. When I told her we had sweeter wines on the list she just laughed and said this was fine for her, why should she pay more for a sweeter wine when she didn't have to.
PEACE.

why would anyone spend $200 on redecorating books when you can check the same books out of the library and photocopy 'em from cover to cover for free at the office?

Well Robbo, I had people bring me cooking magazines and ask me to make copies of specific recipes at the store. We put paper & pencils in the cook book aisles because so many people asked to copy specific pages. All of it was better than the folks who would be in Monday morning to return food spattered cook books after they were done cooking for the dinner party from them.
And of course, the woman who had us order 25 Seder pamphletes for her passover dinner-- then returned them, obviously used, the day after, claiming the dinner was cancelled. And that's not all-- she came back ONE YEAR LATER and did the EXACT SAME THING!

Prices at Starbucks round here (south England) have gone up twice recently by 5p each time (10¢). It wasn't an issue apart from the first raise took my double tall latte over £2 ($4), and i only had £2 on me. Does seem odd on the days that I spend more on my coffee than my lunch.

If they can not afford to lose the milk they put out for people to use in the coffee they should not put it out where everyone can get to it. They should make you ask for it. And why would anyone want to ruin there coffee with artificial sweetener after they pay 5 bucks for it?

Silly boy, everybody knows that whipped cream has fewer calories if you use artificial sweeteners.

It's a good thing I don't like coffee. I'll have to deal with my addicted friends, though... :P

As my Mother always said, "Why buy the latte when you can get the milk for free."
Kringas, I can't tell you how gross that sounds. Does it have Hollandaise sauce? I am not sure I would trust a real Hollandaise from Starbucks.

"$2.11 (I guess $2.20 starting next week). Still cheaper than iced coffee"
Weeeell, not really. I now get my iced coffee with milk at the Deli on 8th AVe. between 48th and 49th. It's a huge plastic container filled with mostly coffee, not very much ice, and just the right amount of milk. $1.50.
Love4cheno-I hear you, but with only a few ounces of coffee, and a medium amount of milk, I'm done in a few sips through the straw! lol. I guess I could request light on the ice and see what happens.
Hey Elphaba-they are a business and can raise prices, but aren't we allowed to complain about it if we want to here on a messsage board?

Jane - the delis and carts are definitely cheaper, but i really don't like the taste of the coffee (and I've tried many).
Dunkin' Donuts is disgusting, as is Au Bon Pain.
I love Oren's, but there isn't one near me.
Bouchon Bakery's coffee is sooooo good, but that place is super-pricey for an everyday fix.
Yeah, I'm nit-picky.
I'm actually buying an espresso machine so I can make my own Illy Espresso. (I'm going to take my homemade espresso into Starbucks and still use their milk, so there!) Kidding.

Peace, starbucks!!

Cheno-don't get me wrong. I must have good coffee. I'm very picky about what I keep in my own apt for my morning mug. But somehow, with iced coffee, between the ice and the amount of milk, they don't taste that much different to me.
I plan to try Starbucks again, maybe tonight on the way to work!

My guess is that the reason for the increase in price is because Starbucks is introducing 2% milk as the main milk for drinks. Since whole and skim milks will still be available for those who request it, they'll be ordering more milk than usual.
One of our customers gets around the prices by ordering a venti misto with five pumps of mocha syrup and whipped cream instead of a regular venti misto. He saves a few dollars, but his drink never tastes exactly the same due to the change of coffee every week. I think he does it just to be nice though, since the tips he always leaves more or less pay for the rest of the drink anyway.

Speaking of the tip jar, what is up with that? Don't you get paid by the hour to make coffee? Isn't that your JOB? Why should we feel pressured into tipping you just because your boss is too cheap to pay you more?

Well, that is a delightful way of looking at things, I must say. No, the tip jar is not obligatory. However it is a wonderful way for the majority of the poor college kids who work at Starbucks to be able to pay their gas money every week. At least in my store there is zero pressure to use the tip jar and we always remember to thank anyone who is kind enough to leave a little something. Even something as small as putting in the 13 cents change you get back has a tremendous power to brighten up a person's day. It's when people order 12 different drinks in the drive-thru and then change their mind half way through the order and THEN request 12 ice waters that a tip is more or less thought of as necessary.
Do you use the same logic to keep from tipping in restaurants? If so, I hope your waiters don't catch on any time soon or else you'll be very disappointed by your quality of service.

Waiters are different. They do not get paid an hourly wage that is minimum. They work for tips. When they are hired that is the agreement. You were not lured to work at SBs because of the tips. Do you tip your Doctor? Do you tip your bus driver? NO. Because they are working for what wages they agreed to work for. Do you make at least the minium hourly wage at SBs?

Ah, Trekkie...so my "." wasn't there.
Besides, that's only the 9 cents a day. Now add that to your regular starbucks order.
You'd be pretty surprised how much you actually spend in a year if you drink starbucks each day (or often).
