The miniseries will be hard to beat, but I loved Fukunaga's Jane Eyre. I'm very curious to see what he can do with the material. Just don't ruin a good adaptation with a major ending change as they did The Mist. That was infuriating.
What was the original ending of The Mist?? I thought it was kind of a silly, ridiculous movie, until the end, which I thought was shocking, brutal and awesome.
I actually liked the change in ending to The Mist. It's rare Hollywood goes darker than the source material.

i believe in the original ending to the Mist he just drives off not knowing what is going on...
I think it ends with them getting a signal on the radio...
That was one dark fvcking ending. Lol
I hope for this IT remake they get Peter Dinklage for Pennywise. That would scare the poop out of me.
From what I remember, the original story just ended with his describing how the unknown monsters are apparently there to stay and the world as we know it is gone and he's just going to keep trying to survive. It was more a tale on a new state of evolution and how humans may face it in today's society. The ending of the film was so brutally cynical, it just rendered the entire film as meaningless to me. With just those two endings, they come across as two very different stories. The first I found terrifying and intriguing. The second, just depressing.
The ending of THE MIST was ridiculous! It was like THEM suddenly turned into THE TROJAN WOMEN, complete with slow motion "gravitas" and Middle Eastern wailing on the soundtrack. I was like, "Oh Darabont you drama queen, get over yourself and just let a big bug movie be a big bug movie."
Matt, I must have read your post 30 times before realizing you were talking about THE MIST, not IT. lol

I didn't realize that The Eyes of the Dragon was in any sort of development. I've loved that book for a long time and hope that one actually happens. An amazing fairy tale for grown ups.
The change of ending in The Mist was incredible, one of the reasons that made the film work as well as it did and something the critics love. I adore King but the ending to The Mist on film was far better.
And the Mini Series of IT is great but the ending of that was shocking in a naff way
I actually applauded the ending of The Mist. Finally thought that Hollywood grew a pair! The first time I actually id "Ohhhhh Sh%t!" at a final scene!
The Mist was a real homage to The Crawling Eye.
