I, too, love "Lost Inside of You"
I'm a huge Judy fan, but I do like the the 70's version. Some of you may know Streisand offered the lead male role to Elvis. Many of you may soon appreciate the 70's version as well if the rumors of a remake with Jennifer Lopez in the starring role is true.
Hey Matthius, great minds think alike!
...and Chazds, I believe that in playright Arthur Laurents' memoir he mentions that he suggested to Babs that she play the "Norman Maine -- nee John Norman" part. I kinda like that idea.
Who would have played Mrs. Norman Maine then?
BT, LOL!!
Not sure. My Top Ten guesses would be:
1. Barry Gibb
2. Neil Diamond
3. Mandy Patinkin
4. Ryan O'Neal
5. Omar Sharriff
6. James Caan
7. Walter Matthau (a bit long in the tooth)
8. Michael Crawford (deemed un-sexy)
9. Yves Montand
or......
10. Idina Menzel
I vote Idina
Well, I'm not ashamed to admit it....I LOVE this movie. I cannot wait to get my hands on the DVD, I'm so excited!! It hasn't aged very well, I agree...but it's one of those movies that are just too campy and fun and so it doesn't matter.
The part after John Norman dies, and she listens to his voice on the recording and cries is one of my all-time favorite 'Barbra moments'. Also, when she sings "Woman in the Moon" and "With One More Look At You".... wonderful. She has amazing chemistry with Kris Kristofferson (they were an item in real life, though it ended before filming started).
Btw, did you know that she composed "Lost Inside of You"?
A STAR IS BORN is a landmark of truly horrifying 1970s fashions and hairstyles.
And whatever happened to John Peters anyway?
The hairstyles are horrible, but the fashions are gorgeous! I would still wear every single one of Barbra's outfits today (they were actually all her outfits, from her private wardrobe).
Jon Peters became a very, very successful producer. Even though he's not as powerful now as he was in the 80's and 90's, he's still producing.
let's play six degrees of babs:
babs marries elliott gould
elliott gould stars opposite lesley ann warren in "drat! the cat! on bway.
babs records the song "(s)he touched me" from the show.
lesley ann marries jon peters
babs divorces elliott
jon dumps lesley ann for babs
lesley ann co-stars again w/elliott in "harry and walter go to new york" in 1976.
babs and jon produced "a star is born" in 1976.
elliott stars with james brolin in "capricorn one"
james brolin winds up marrying babs.
...damn i have too much time on my hands today
