What a story. Everything but the bloodhounds snappin' at her rear end.

I only WISH that my biggest issues with an apartment were that there were noisy roommates. Or that it was a little too dark. Or that taking the subway ONE OR TWO STOPS could potentially be "really stressful" if I woke up late.

Waiting for a train was one of the least stressful things I ever had when I lived in the city for a summer.

This was newsworthy? I can only imagine how much money her parents have if they can spend $2100 a month for her to live in NYC and close to NYU. Well, in the sense that she's too damn ridiculous to be willing to commute from 25th street down to the Washington Square Park area. Or live in a dark apartment closer.

And she's an aspiring actress. Oh Lord!! Take her name now because if she ever goes on a national tour, she's gonna be a royal beeotch.

I have a question though. How does the NY Times find people like this? Do they call NYU and say "We want to interview a student trying to find housing in NYC?"
If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

If noise is really so bothersome to her sleep and health, I don't quite understand why she would choose to live and go to school in Manhattan?

Where have you been the last ten years? The NYT has been publishing stuff like this for several years. Their "style" pages have lots of articles like this.

My favorite from a few years ago was the mother who was mad at her son's private school. She had donated money to the school and they had a school play and the teacher assigned the son to collect money at the door. The mother was mad because her son didn't have a lead acting role.

The NYT now acts as "therapy" for people who have too much money and don't know how to handle it.
If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

Every time I think the NYTimes style section hits rock bottom, they manage to hit a new low.

What an absurd piece of writing, featuring an entitled and clueless girl. I hope all involved are happy: she's now a laughingstock.

I mean I had a disgusting clog that gave me a gag reflex when I cleaned it but I cleaned it and did not get an off-campus apartment. I just chose not to live there the following year.

The entitlement is what gets me and she is not alone, I know a handful of kids who are getting their college tuition paid for them and then are living in off campus housing and have a car! None of them work! This girl unfotunately is not unique.
Seems gone are the days of a full time job while in college, taking out massive student loans and actually working for a car or doing without.

I have some of the same issues as she, so I understand her dilemma.

If she is going to NYU without a scholarship, then yes, her parents probably are wealthy and can afford the rent.

No these people still exist. Unfortunately the "Times" isn't interested in them or they are calling this Affluenza to the carpet. I can only imagine what it is like right now for working-class people to try and get their kids off to college. We're still crawling out of a recession and tuitions are at a premium.

If this weren't true, it would be hilarious to think of all the reactions to this article as people read it on their own commutes!

She certainly seems like a spoiled brat and entitled witch. But, on a related note, I'm not buying these assumptions by some on here about her parents being "loaded" or "wealthy." There are many financially comfortable adults who are smart and frugal with their money to save up for these situations; tuitions and living expenses for children in college. My Husband and I are not wealthy but are very comfortable and were able to pay one of our nieces through college... and she still held a part-time job and yes, it put a dent in our bank account.

Are you aware of the price of NYU? About $100,000/yr., all costs included. Without financial aid, I'd say those middle class people did some pretty tight savings to come up with $400,000 for the 4 years.

The average NYU tuition is $22,000 per semester. For two semesters and books, fees, etc., you're probably looking at about $50,000. It costs another $50,000 to live in NYC for one year? Must be a real nice apartment and some extravagant meals...
