Switching from Apple to Android

For the past three years I have owned an iPhone 4s and have loved it, but it's time for me to decide if I should upgrade to the iPhone 6 or be a rebel and go with an Android phone like the Galaxy S5 which is highly advertised. It seems the galaxy is ahead of the game compared to Apple. I also feel that I've been brainwashed by Apple and have product loyalty to them. I do not use a PC and have a Mac computer as well as an old iPad.

Does anyone here use an android phone like the galaxy? If so how do you like your phone and have you ever been an iPhone user?

Yup! I gave up on Apple around the iPhone 3. I've been very, very happy.

Had an iPhone 5. Switched to the Galaxy s5. A much better phone that I'm much happier with!

Do it. Worst that can happen is that you hate it and in two years after your contract is up you switch back. I did it. Hated my droid and switched back to iPhone a few years ago. But for me it is mostly because my home, office, and everyone I work with is on apple.. so it is easier for me to have a phone that is part of the eco system. Good luck.

At the end of the day, it's just a phone. Like how one vacuum cleaner may have features different from another, you choose what's best for you.

Like Dame said, the ecosystem you're in makes a difference. my iPhone works seamlessly with my Mac at home and at work, my iPads, Apple TV, etc. My partner, family and most of my friends are on Apple too so we can iMessage or FaceTime anywhere in the world with no additional charges too.

I was a 6-year iPhone user and on a whim switched to a Galaxy s5. After about 4 months, I will be switching back to Apple for the 6+.

The Galaxy lags too much for me. It simply cannot handle the amount of texting I do at one time and in one day. It has some nice features, but the switch definitely solidified that I am an Apple person.

* before anyone asks, yes I clear older texts and background apps on the Galaxy. It doesn't help the lagging.

I tired an Andriod phone as well and swapped back to Apple as soon as the 5 came out, I didn't find the android to be easy, didn't like the app store.

I also tried to break away from Apple and go back to Android a few months ago. My first smartphone was an Android, but I switched when the iPhone 4 came out. After a few years with the iPhone, going back to Android was difficult. Things that seemed great like widgets and customization options ended up feeling overwhelming and superfluous.

Ran back to an iPhone after trying 2 months with the Galaxy S4.

I totally get the anxiety of buying a new phone. They are integral parts of our lives and we deal with them all day. I sent you a pm. . Why don't you try this... go to ebay and buy a no contract slightly older samsung model for cheap so you can try it out. If you love it..GREAT.. then just keep it or go out and buy yourself the one you really want. If you hate it.. then get yourself the iPhone.

Android is superior in pretty much every way. It's far better in terms of hardware, sharing options, applications, multimedia simplicity, your file system, and even the keyboard options. Apple products all about the look, and for people who don't know much about technology. The only positive thing about Apple products is their battery life.

Sadly, people are brainwashed by what's trendy and have it in their mind that the iPhones are the coolest phones without any actual reasons as to why they feel that way. I'm really glad you are questioning that, and realizing that Apple has people by the balls. If you buy their product, you will have to constantly spend additional money for it. The Galaxy series of phones are some of the best phones out there, and I fully recommend getting one.

Totally disagree with you SR. its a matter of personal taste. I personally find apples products far superior for many reasons already mentioned. And I have had both. I also have not spent any additional money on my phone or laptop since day of purchase. The android vs iPhone argument is crap.

Hm, since that is what this entire thread is about, it's really not "crap". I gave my opinion, and actual facts about Android phones, just like the OP asked about.

But, Apple users defending their sh*t products is nothing new.

Bstoll, I work in IT and the Android is superior with their universal interface, nested scrolling, and paper design. Apple commercials are cooler, but that's about it. Good luck.

Anyone else here switch from Apple to Windows Phone? I have a Nokia Lumia 920 and love it. The interface is very intuitive. There are technically fewer apps, but I've never been at a loss for an app yet.

I love my Samsung Galaxy note 3. Greatest phone I have ever owned and I have the watch which is the greatest invention ever made. If my phone is in my bag I can chat on my watch and the funny thing is the watch is actually a better phone.

It is very expensive and it was worth every penny to me.

I love Apple computers for video editing but as phones go I would never switch to an iphone. I like my Macbook pro for editing but I am a PC person. It depends on what you started with. I am most comfortable on a PC and Android. (Samsung!)

LOL! Windows 8.1 is actually a very nice mobile operating system. I hated Windows 8 for my PC and mostly use my Macbook, but the Metro interface is beautiful on tablets/phones. I have no regrets or suicidal thoughts post-switch.

I have a windows phone too and it's superior to the iPhone I used to have in every single way. Most notably battery life and the camera.
I've also enjoyed wireless charging and streaming music long before it came to the iPhone.
But the main reason I won't support Apple is because of their horrid business practices.
And I know most electronics companies engage in some of the same behavior. But Apple is an American company and one of the richest in the history of the world, so I hold them to a higher standard. I can't support an American company that engages in the sort of practices described in the link below.

Well, I would assume your (presumably) newer model Windows phone is superior to the iPhone 3, which came out 6 years ago.
