I'm STILL obsessing over Olivier's Heathcliff from when I saw Wuthering Heights the other day. My god, so incredibly hot.

Only catching the end but it looks good!
Yesterday The Third Man was on. That movie is sheer perfection. Joseph Cotton, Trevor Howard, Bernard Lee, the gorgeous Alida Valli and Orson Welles in a memorable performance. Not to mention the marvelous zither music. Love it.
"Cimarron" is old a creaky, Glebby, but it's a great story. Very much in the vein of Edna Ferber's other novel-to-screen adaptations: Show Boat and Giant.
1. Sweeping saga
2. Covers several decades
3. Racial intolerance plot lines (Show Boat: Black and White, Giant: Latin American and White, Cimarron: Native American and White)
I highly recommend the whole movie when you get the chance! The overall total effect is much better than the (creaky) parts.
I want to see the whole movie Besty - cuz I loves Irene Dunne.
All this talk of Irene Dunne reminds me of Bert Lahr dressed as Queen Victoria in Two on the Aisle. His line: "What Helen Hayes and Irene Dunne I have also did."
"All This and Heaven Too"
.... sigh
Mamie---LOL!
Irene Dunne it better than anybody.
Best12, I literally just laughed out loud. Vaudeville is not dead on BWW!!!
I'm think'n Miss Ellen's mighty upset! She must have seen one of the kids wearing her portiers....
Great Balls of Fire! They're my portiers now!
LOL! No wonder she went nuts!
(by the way Glebby - I LOVE your avatar!)
Shhhh! I'm watching "Lilies of The Field" on KBYU.
Her father's daughter.
I think she's got a thing for Henry Fonda!
She has good taste.
(By the way - so does her dad. I finally saw Sweeney Todd today and I LOVED it! I am glad that I read a few of the spoilers though. I really didn't want to see Mrs. Lovett's death so I just caught quick peeks between my fingers. That was just too nightmarish. But I really thought everyone was marvelous in it. Major kudos to Depp - who I've been a fan of since Benny and Joon - and to Helena Bonham Carter. I've never been a fan of hers until this film. She's nothing short of brilliant and her singing is perfect for the character.)
Although you all know I love TCM dearly, they really pissed me off today. I watched their 2007 tribute to those who passed this year and guess who they slighted??
Charles Nelson Reilly.
Actor, Singer, Dancer, Director and most respected acting teacher for generations of actors. Not a mention.
Boo.
Well, I agree that it's mighty petty of them but I wonder if it's not because he really had no film career. TONS of stuff on TV but not much more than a cameo appearance here and there in films.
(This is based on my rapidly declining memory. If he did have a film career, my apologies to him!)
My friends think I am weird because I watch the movies that come on TCM. A lot of them are much better stories then the ones from today IMO.
Mamie, I would agree with your point if they hadn't included Richard Jeni and Joel Seigel in their list as well.
I try to flip through the TCM Tivo listing, just to see what's coming up. Which means I record a lot of TCM that I never get around to watching.
Although, we did watch TORTILLA FLAT the other day. It was pretty good, except who told Spencer Tracy he could be a Mexican!
Probably the same guy who told him he could play a Portugese fisherman!
(I do love him as Manuel though!)
The Corsican Brothers!
Ruth Warrick looks beautiful.
