RadiGal, the finale of Six Feet Under was breathtaking--one of the all time greats. It was moving, it was beautiful, it made me weep--it was absolutely perfect. One of my favorite shows EVER.

Last night's KING OF QUEENS finale was pure crap.
Sunday's 7th HEAVEN finale (the second time) was a big honkinh R.V. loaded full of crap.
I have moderately high hopes for GILMORE GIRLS tonight. It won't be too overwrought, since it was filmed as a season finale, not a series finale.
I hated SEINFIELD, minus a few episodes, but the finale one was just plain stupid.
I don't think I have ever been invested in a television show enough for the finales to really get to me. Oh no, I lied. SAVED BY THE BELL, both the regular and College years. The finale episode where Zac and Kelly got married and they did flashbacks . . . I had a tear or two.
The last Tonight Show with Johnny Carson was truly the end of an era (even though the show ostensibly continued these past 15 years).
I'm still pissed that Everwood was cancelled for another season of 7th Heaven.

Didn't 7th Heaven end a year or two ago?
I hate series finales. Even the bad ones get me going. Friends was tough, but it was ruined by the arrival of Joey. Why did they have to create what must be the worst spin-off in history?
I found Frasier very sad too.
And I know it's not a series in the same context, but I'm going to cry my way through the last Harry Potter book this summer. It's pretty much been around my whole childhood, and it's a trademark of my generation.
^^AGREED about Harry Potter
What's sad is when a long-running show is canceled without fanfare and therefore never really has a finale. "Designing Women" is the obvious example, but there are plenty others, too. "Married With Children" was lowbrow crap, but it was lowbrow crap that ran for 10 or 11 years and should have at least had a conclusion.
As for "Roseanne" -- I just pretend the last season never happened. And how did "Cheers" have a finale without bringing Lilith back?

*SPOILERS OF HARRY POTTER 6 AFOOT*
I cried all the way through Dumbledore's funeral. It was so bloody sad! End of an era in itself.
*SPOILERS OVER*

Calvin, I thought the Cheers finale was still fabulous. I loved Lilith, too, but at least we got Diane!

The "M*A*S*H" finale ("Goodbye, Farewell and Amen") is now on DVD.
The best finales imho were "Mary Tyler Moore", "Frasier", "The Fugitive", "Newhart".

the final episode of john from cincinatti was really hard for me. that show has been a fixture upon my brain.

I completely agree.
"Taxi" didn't get a send off, either. It just got cancelled.
Though, after M*A*S*H* and Mary Tyler Moore, what with all the hype that they give these "Final Episodes", I usually don't watch them and just think "DIE ALREADY!!!!!!"
All the great ones have been said, and in addition to that I must add Veronica Mars. Up until the last 45 seconds of the series finale, those last episodes were absolutely awesome.
That's a show I'm really going to miss. And check out the shows next season that are replacing it... need I say more.

I agree.
VERONICA MARS!
Also: I miss HOPE AND FAITH.
Is Veronica Mars really being cancelled? Cause that last episode did not feel like a series finale, I was very dissapointed by it, the previous 2 season finales were amazing and this season's was just not good.
I thought the Gilmore Girl's series finale was very well done. I didn't know they did another season of 7th Heaven, I distinctly remember watching the "series finale" last year.
Mustn't forget "Will and Grace" last year.
I know some thought it had been dead for a while.
But I loved it. And seeing it go was very hard.

I could also say THE OFFICE but I didn't watch it when it aired.
30 new episodes of it were just picked up for next season...
I agree with whoever said that Newhart had a great finale.

i was talking about the UK version.
Calvin, I thought that Married with Children had a great last episode. My parents still have it on tape. For me the end of an era was Buffy, but she has been replaced by Lost (I don't care what any of ya'll say), and Heroes. O yes and Dead Like Me! Why did it not get picked up again?

I don't know which was worse -the first 7th Heaven "series finale" or the second one.
King of Queens was pretty crappy.
Gilmore Girls was just about perfect.
OK now people!! Hold up, have we forgetten the end of one of America's best sitcoms: THE COSBY SHOW!!! The Huxtable family was my family and I cried like a baby during the finale... especially when BoyzIIMen sang "It's so hard to say goodbye" The finale centered more on flashbacks and Theo, but it was still quite memorable and a end of an era for me. i can't believe you guys didn't think of that one.
Cosby Show got me as well beyondblessed.
I'll also own up to the fact that the Full House finale meant a lot to me. I literally was raised on that show.
Veronica Mars is cancelled although it could technically still be brought back mid-season (deadline to decide is, like, June 1st or something... so one day lol). They filmed that season finale as a season finale because they weren't positive it was going to be cancelled yet. So, yes, there are definitely a LOT of unanswered questions, but they didn't do that to us on purpose.
