Yeah, I'm hating it right now. Parents might not let me go to NY next week to see Caroline. Blahhhhh.....c'mon now!

Tell your parents that the only terrorists coming to NYC are the Republicans.

None of this is news. They didn't even wait a week after the convention before issuing this "alert". Bush must be terrified.

this is stupid. we all knew that there was a risk of terrorist attacks months ago! why didn't they just raise the level then?

Haha. Matt_G, I totally agree with you on the Republican deal.
Heh heh.

I thought the Convention was a mockery. In a place where people like Bill Clinton spoke, (I don't care about Monica crap, he was a kick arse pres.)celebrity's acted like the patriartical(s/P) group. Oh yeah, I REALLY care what Ben Affleck thinks. Ugh.

I don't even pay attention to it. I think this whole thing is more done so that if something should happen again, no one can say no steps were taken to prevent it from happening, since that was just a whole big issue.

I think it's pretty scary. Regardless. I hope nothing comes of it. And I hope we're not being manipulated. Again. And I hope the current President will re-think his administration's policy on not sending more money to identified target cities, like NYC.

information developed over the last 36 hours or obtained over the last 36 hours which included specific surveillance information on named targets in nyc, nj and dc.

when the persons involved, specifically the democrat governor of nj, declares that the information "clearly and unequivocably justifies" the raising of the alert level and the public announcements, one might consider it to be more than politics.

It scares me though how easy it would be for someone to carry a bomb onto a train that goes underground in a backpack or something. How can you really watch out for that?

It's scary that Amtrak and the subway have zip for security. Even though they might have cops standing around it wouldnt do much good.

Yes- he had a very interesting interview with a psychiatrist from Washington who also holds some office- does anyone remember his name and role? He made some very interesting and astute remarks.

I don't know. This one strikes me as having some credibility. This was very specific....not the usual, terrorist "might be" planning something. I've shrugged off most of the other raised alerts....I'm having a more difficult time with this one.

I agree with you. I have a very unsettled feeling about this threat. My husband reminded me of what was said in F911, but it is not making me feel much better.

the level has only been elevated in certain areas of NY, NJ, and DC - so the rest of the world can rest easy. Also its only in the financial districts. Nice that I live in NYC's financial district ..... super

Flits, look back and you'll see that the other ones were the same. Did I miss something or isn't this one just "financial center"?

The WTC -- and three-quarters of Manhattan -- count as a "financial center."

I vote for crap.

well, zoles, they did pick out and mention specific buildings and specific threat information. so you might need to look at it. they pointed out having learned of specific mentions of surveillance on these buildings that could only have been obtained on-site like pedestrian traffic patterns, security levels and placements and concentrations and location and layouts of underground parking facilities along with tables on temperatures necessary to melt foundation structures. chuck schumer just said it's credible. i think this one just might be credible.
