im straight, and not that old...
str8, gr8, but what gender? and i didn't mean to offend by the use of the word "boy". i just assumed from your energy and enthusiasm you were younger than myself, but then most of the population is *wink*
and i also wish MAYBE THIS TIME luck tomorrow. i'm seeing DAMN YANKEES there tomorrow myself.
boy. gender=boy. i passed Barnabys on the walk to allrecords and thought of all you guys here on the houston thread
i need to get back to Barnaby's soon. Great desserts too. Have you been to Baby Barnaby's for breakfast? a fun time. The apple sausage is great.

for good luck have b'fast at Baby Barnaby's first. i'll keep my fingers crossed for you.
TxTwoStep - Yes, Naya is the performer from Twas and Three-Cornered Hat. I did 3-Corner with her at UH as well as a couple of other Ostrow projects. Leslie is Tom's wife and she is also a performer. She did the Kathy and Mo Show at TheatreLaB a few times. She was also Veanne Cox's roommate when they both first moved to NYC about a year before Veanne got a role in Smile.
I didn't have time to go out last night and I'll be in Austin today and tomorrow visiting my niece. I might go out tomorrow, though. Where is Meteor? GiGi is performing with Joanne at Meteor? I haven't seen him in ages. He was a Little Room regular for a few years as well. I wonder if he and Bill Bob are still together.
I had my Doneraki dinner last night, though it was a bit disappointing. And my Shipley's Donuts this morning. If Shipley's opened in Chicago, they would make a FORTUNE.
I noticed I SING! got a pretty good review today in the Chronicle. I have the CD, but I'm not too fond of the show. The lyrics tend to get sophomoric and trite and I just don't care too much for the whininess of the characters. I just want to shake them and tell them to grow up. Maybe it plays better on stage. I'll give Jerry LaBida a call tomorrow. I miss working with him.

Just found this thread and I am excited. It seems like everyone else lives in or near NYC. Granted I don't actually live in Houston, but I am pretty close (College Station, WHOOP!). I do get down there every now and then. Mostly to see shows, but not nearly enough to just spend time there. I should go more often.

It actually was a suprisingly "chorus line"-like expirience. At one point you stand in 5 lines of 5 and do excersises and then rotate around and around, but for the most part it was fine. No suprises.
Also, I just got back from Damn Yankees, which was AMAZING. The actress who played Lola (can't rmr the name -- sorry my "PVA BILL" is downstairs) was FABULOUS. If it weren't a high school production, I wouldn't think she was in high school.
was the guy crazy looking guy w/ black hair in it? he's gonna be a star. i sware, he's really talented.
MISTER MATT: love me some SMILE. Didn't know Veanne was in it, never heard of her before CAROLINE OR CHANGE. i saw I SING and EE was very kind; the performers have some talent, but there was some miscasting and mis-staging and the material is not quite ready...though i understand how young the creators were when they did it...so for their inexperience it's pretty amazing. i liked EE's point about "even awkward new musicals" rather than "jukebox compilations" however.
i saw DAMN YANKEES too. It was not bad, wish they'd have used the new revised book and not the old one. Not quite as good as shows i've seen at HSPVA in the past. Lola really grew on me, but she scared me with her first number, which seemed like she was very intimidated and couldn't handle it vocally. Once she started to dance, and vocally in later numbers, she got it together.
QT and MTT will have to shake things up when they become students there! Or maybe the faculty will evolve...
SONGS4, i want to visit College Station myself. Never been there, very curious about it.

I thought Lola (Emily Vanover) was AMAZING! She's in Dance focus, and she was still one of the best singers in the show. Logan Kessler ("crazy guy w/ black hair??) was Applegait, and although I don't think he has the best voice, his dancing was phenomenal. They had a huge 32 piece orchestra made up of students that was fabulous as well. Lumumba Seegars and Jared Joseph as old & young Joe were great and I commend Anna Marrin (Meg) for doing the show w/ a sprained ankle. The whole show was brilliantly put together, especially for the space, and those are some talented kids!
yeah, Young Joe was great i thought. i liked Old Joe, but he was in both of the previous HSPVA musicals i saw, and was exactly the same in both. i like him, and he's young i know, but someone should be pushing him for some different characterizations. Applegate's song was just too low for him. Keslar was phenomenonal in CHORUS LINE at TUTS as Mark.
MISTER MATT Bonasso's evening at Meteor is every first and third Monday of the month, so there's one tomorrow night. Unfortunately, tomorrow evening is also Mark Arvin's memorial in Zilkha Hall. The times don't really conflict, but the moods sure do. Meteor is at the corner of Fairview (just as it swerves and turns into Tuam) and Genessee. Here's their link:

Finally, SONGS4: there is nothing wrong with a college town. Even if there's no theatre, there's always a lot of scenery. Is the Corps still full of hot homoerotic men? i sublet to a very hot A&M student this past summer, he was straight but he was really really really nice.

I agree, there is nothing wrong with a college town. That was more or less just a description. Yes, the corp is still full of hot men, but they are almost all assholes. There is theatre here. As a matter of fact. The Full Monty will be here on Wed and Thurs this week. The ballet (Giselle, but not the best production) was here today. And I do love the campus. It is definitely one of the most beautiful ones I have ever been on.
i love college campus architecture! one of my favorites so far is LSU in Baton Rouge. If you've never seen it, you can rent EVERYBODY'S ALL AMERICAN as it was filmed there. So was one of the Kent State TV movies, but i forget what it's called. They have the most beautiful live oaks all over campus, and these esplanades between buildings, really nice.
i look forward to seeing the A&M campus, maybe with a guided tour from SOMEBODY...

The LSU campus is amazing. I use to work there. But, I still love A&M more (its just one of those things that I have grown up loving).
If you come to A&M you can easily get a guided tour, but you can also PM me and I can take you around campus too. Probably not as informative, but might be more interesting and fun.
