Well, for take what ever comfort you can in the fact that you aren't the only one here in that fight.

Patronus, I had/have very similar difficulties with the food issue. It took a tremendous amount of willpower to just plain eat less. One thing that helped was deciding on particular times during the work day when I have a snack, which I bring from home of course. I started with a schedule of breakfast at 8, snack at 11, lunch at 1, another snack at 3:30 and dinner at 6. I would usually have some kind of dessert after dinner around 7:30 and then eat nothing else after 8. As I said the most important element here is willpower.
Another thing that helps is WW ice cream. They make a 4 pt. chocolate chip cookie dough sundae that is to die for. Find a low point treat that you love and make it an end of the day if you have the points left thing. I find it easier to not eat things if I can figure out what I could have later if I don't use them now.
Oh and water, water, and more water! And I love popcorn too

Pretzels are a low point food if you buy the right kind.
Also, South Beach taught me that when I am hungry at night, just eat a small piece of cheese (string cheese is good). It will help your cravings.

Ah, the ice cream and string cheese sounds phenominal. Alas, I am lactose intolerant.
Wow! YodaMarie being down 48lbs is absolutely incredible. Good job girl!

OK, I'm ready to give up and give this dieting thing a try. At this weight I look awful and feel worse. The last course of prednisone treatment ended over Christmas so I have no more excuses (damn!).
South Beach or WW? Any suggestions? I really need to do something.....soon.

Moony, I'm really just trying to eat better, healthier foods.
And honestly, taking a diet pill to control the cravings. Both are working in tandem rather well.

I forgot about the whole lactose thing. Sorry
100 Calorie packs are good, 2 pts and lactose free as far as I know. And seriously popcorn is a godsend! The Orvell Redenbacher Smart Pop 94% Fat Free is good and 4 pts for the regular bag and 2 for the small bag. I often eat popcorn when I get home from work so I won't be so starving that I eat everything in sight.
Bluemoon, I recommend WeightWatchers, but I am totally biased.
And a belated congratulations to Best12Bars!

Well, bluemoon, this is the Weight Watchers thread. Most of us are probably going to recommend Weight Watchers.
But, I think using South Beach ideas is a great way to maximize things on WW. South Beach ideals are lower in points usually.
I think WW is the best program ever--and I will use it the rest of my life. I haven't been this skinny in 10 years. I have never been this skinny for this long. And, I feel like there is no end in sight on this.
I think most of us need the structure and teaching that WW gives.

Same question for you, Jerby: meeting/weigh-in or on your own?
Thanks, BTW.

No problem. I love the 100 Calorie packs of Chips Ahoy and Wheat Thins. I may have to invest in them. It irritates me that they cost more than the larger servings of the regular product though.
Only in American will we pay more for less and be thrilled about it.

I do it online. I was freaked out at the idea of having to go and talk to all those people, not to mention weigh in in front of them. I also just plain don't have time to attend meetings.
It works for me, but I would only recommend it if you feel like you can hold yourself accountable to you. I have a friend who goes to meetings because she needs the accountability of her weekly weigh in.

Even though I don't follow WW to a T, I do follow the basic principles it teaches. And like they say, it's not about going a diet... whatever you eat is your diet... it's a lifestyle change.
What has worked for me is having a more substantial breakfast, and cutting the carbs then. Instead of cereal (which has lots of sugar) I now have a bagel with eggwhites, cheese and ham. I find that I fills me up, so I'm not hungry until later in the afternoon.
I am the same way about eating food when it's there, so I make an effort to stay away from food. When they bring muffins or whatever to the office, I steer clear of the kitchen.

True, but for me being able to just grab the pack and not have to worry about counting out the portions is worth it... most of the time.
Oh and I forgot the most important thing. Food that I cannot eat does not enter my apartment!

Food that I cannot eat does not enter my apartment!
That'd be key! We have a tendency to buy bad things thinking we can handle them in small qualities. No dice.

I am really worried that I can't keep on this by myself like I had been trying. I seem to be stuck at about 3 days of being good and then 3 days off. The cycle starts again when I freak out and start half way through day 7.
Pat, I somehow had it in my mind that the WW icevream was lactose free. It is not, I learned the hard way.
Yoda, that is a good rule.

Great point, yoda. Only buy foods that you can actually use properly. I happen to eat a lot of the same stuff, so my shopping list is easy--same stuff every week.
At first, I could buy a pint of Ben & Jerry's and have a 1/2 a serving (couple of bites lol) and be just fine. But, too many times, I wouldn't stop and I would end up spending all my weekly points! That's no fun.

One of the most important things is not to feel deprived. Allow yourself to eat what you like once a week. Pick a day... for me it's Saturday. I get to have a white chocolate mocha, whole eggs... but during the week I try to stick to my plan.
One constant that I really try not to break except on very special occassions is no fried food. No french fries, fried chicken... sometimes calamari. Oh... and I stay away from pastries like muffins and croissants. After a while I don't even crave them anymore.
